Disappointed. Doesn’t have actual chapters or review sections. Doesn’t even have distinct Theme chapters by dates. It literally starts in with no Table of Contents and only has subtitle headlines for progression of dates. We have to read it to our kids because it is not designed like an academic History Book. I would not recommend this for grade school or junior high. This is almost like a book for parents if you want to review timeline of events while your child is utilizing a corresponding/complimenting book that has chapters and questions.

It is what it says it is, just a basic History book. I’ve always hated history and flunked out of it in school but recently I’ve been interested in giving it another go. Can’t beat the free price…:)

It’s amazing how revisionist have gotten away with rewriting American history. I have been collecting old American history text books, and the contrast to what is taught now is as stark as the difference of night and day. For example; it’s sad how many think the Civil War was actually fought over slavery, when in fact the abolishing of slavery was simply a means to the end in the North’s effort to economically dominate the South. It is also not mentioned in modern text books that it was the North that promoted and profited the most from the slave trade. FYI: I live in the North, and I do not promote slavery. However I do promote the presentation of factual history. This book is a great option to open the eyes of any doubters.

The version sold on Amazon (w/Statue of Liberty) in a poor excuse for the book (w/ old Amercian flag) I needed to teach children history. Both versions have the same text, but very different formatting. The version from Amazon has no page numbers, headings, maps, pictures, table of contents, or index. I am giving it one star because they refunded my money.

While the content of this book is ok.. the layout is very confusing.. there is no table of contents in this edition and the layout/writing is very confusing for a child as the topic/chapters are not clearly indicated.. The edition that has been updated by John A. Holzman (published by Avyx ) is a much better choice

Excellent for anyone but especially for those not well versed in American history; American adults and youth, recent English speaking immigrants, etc. No revisionist or politically correct history here, thank goodness. Highly recommended.
