livre anglophone broché souple format poche en anglais datant de 1978 appartenant à une collection qui existe en français (solar si ma mémoire est fiable) et sous plusieurs noms en anglais (simon & schuster, macdonald); après 70 pages d’introduction assez complètes (anatomie, physiologie etc), cet ouvrage basé sur le principe des fiches systématisées à gauche (2 espèces par double-page) avec photos en regard à droite, survole le monde mammalien en en sélectionnant quelques centaines d’espèces emblématiques (426 exactement); les données sont très (trop) succinctes, les photos de taille correcte; pas de cartes de répartition; cette petite encyclopédie d’initiation, complètement inadaptée au terrain, est à mettre dans sa bibliothèque pour le feuilleter de temps à autres et redécouvrir quelque mammifère mal connu du bout du monde

For example, take peek at the sample pages. Look up ‘bat’ in the index. Note that it’s not there. You have to know the EXACT common or scientific name to find an animal. Or else just browse through the appropriate chapter. The time I’ve spent just trying to find a particular species knocks this down to three stars, and that’s being generous
