Great book, thorough descriptions and lots of helpful photos. Only drawback is it focuses on Matt work, ball & magic circle and does not include larger equipment like the reformer or back arch. It also includes a chapter on a piece of equipment that does not appear to be available any longer.

This book is clear and the photo illustrations are fantastic. I have rarely seen a resource that I could use without any instruction – but with Brooke’s video and this book, I understand and can perform the exercises in Series I, Series II and I’m working some Series III into my routine. I have been taking lessons in person as well – and this book makes those more productive and rewarding.

As a long time Pilates instructor, one of the biggest challenges is getting clients to practice at home on their own, and to understand the method. This book has clear, concise instructions and beautiful pictures. Brooke truly has a gift for her true voice coming through in her language. I have purchased her first book The Pilates Body for many clients and family members because it was so good for beginners….and back when it was first published Pilates was not very accessible so it helped many people. This book takes it to the next level, with information about all the apparatus used in Pilates that even I as an instructor can still benefit from. This book is increedibly well done. The instructions are short and they make sense! The reader will find a multitude of exercises for every purpose, every level, every age. Good photographs too.

This book is soOOoo great! It is written in a way that is easy to understand for the first time Pilates Practitioner but also will enrich the practice of those Pilates Pros! There is so much information to flip through. Not just about the exercises but even interesting facts dispersed throughout that add color and entertainment to an, obviously, worthwhile routine! Though, this book definitely won’t leave you with a boring routine. Always offering creative options for advancement or variations to shake things up. This book is a rich addition to any fitness advocate’s library!!

Absolutely excellent book with gorgeous photos of positions. Extremely comprehensive for mat based pilates exercises. Some of the newer modifications of pilates reformer and other equipment based movements that show up in recent videos do not necessarily appear here, but she does show many modifications of exercises standing or using hand weights, exercise balls, and the like. The book is definitely true to Joseph Pilate’s original mat work, but takes it a bit further for those with special areas of concern. I wanted a traditional book version of this (and DO recommend a traditional book copy to all because to the photos and ability to so quickly flip through in that format). But, I will undoubtedly be purchasing the e-book version as well, for travel…
Fort those who have Siler’s original book, “The Pilates Body”, I would still highly recommend this book, which is far more expansive and again, the photos!

Really nicely done book, and I’ve got a few Pilates books that I honestly like but this book is great. Chapters laid out well, instructions and photographs well done. Helpful if you’re watching YouTube or cannot attend classes. Well worth the money.

If I recommended two books to my Pilates students to have on their shelves, it would be THE PILATES BODY and THE WOMEN’S HEALTH BIG BOOK OF PILATES. Brooke has put together the clearest, most user-friendly materials for teachers and students. The imagery is fabulous and the books are written in a way that is concise and easy to understand. I am normally not a big fan of DVDs and books for work that is better done in a studio, but these are what you would want to have to reinforce properly all your studies.

Brooke Siler has created a phenomenal pilates reference for all levels and abilties! This truly is THE ESSENTIAL guide to Pilates. With clear pictures of the exercises, detailed, yet easy to follow explanations of every move and suggested workouts for all levels, The Big Book of Pilates is a must have for any exerciser. I love that I can easily work the exercises into my at-home regimen, but also appreciate the history of Pilates and explanation of the apparatus that I would work on in a Pilates studio. I would highly recommend this book as one of the best books written about Pilates- it is fun to read, easy to understand and inspirational!

The explanations are easy to follow, aided by diagrams, and have helped me begin to increase my strength and range of motion again. I feel like I’ve been introduced into a new way of fitness and am looking forward to progressing further.

Book is comprehensive and puts together some good programs to follow. However, as it goes into advanced exercises it misses many that r commonly used in other programs. Limited attention to reformer exercises that have been translate to mat work in other programs. Overall a good workout but limited.
