mudbirdy –
Excellent book for collectors or students. Gives a brief history of each potter and their influences/mentors along with a nice large (full page or half page) color photograph of each potters work. Includes a selected bibliography, potters marks, index of terms and list of public collections of British studio ceramics and an index. Potters looking for design and glazing inspiration will find a diverse range of great pots. Does NOT give glaze recipes, but talks about the glazes. Supposed to be the potters “everyday pots” not just their famous, often photographed ones, but Bernard Leech’s “leaping salmon” vase is included (I love that pot). At the back of the book, includes small photos of up and coming potters with smaller photos (quarter page). Overall a great “general” reference book, without getting too specific. If you want more in-depth on each potter, go to the books in the bibliography.
