The Canyon by Author’s Name

Unless you are making a movie to demonstrate the dumbest things you can do in a survival situation you need to know a few minor things. Regardless of circumstances, if you are going to be in the middle of nowhere, you need a map and a compass. Most 10 year old kids in boy scouts or girl scouts can tell you that. A hardcopy topographical map doesn’t take up any space and they are easy to find these days. If you have a good guide, even if he’s reliable and not a drunk, you still still need your own. If you have a phone with a spare battery, remember it has a GPS receiver and GPS satellites are going to be working even if phone service isn’t. Look at the GPS signal before you leave and write down the coordinates. When you get lost, look again. Even if no map is drawn you can take a few steps and determine exactly what direction it is and maybe how far you have to go. Does the area you are going to have phone coverage? Check in advance. Simple thing to do. Don’t let a “no signal” message surprise you. You should already know if you will have service or not. If you are a long way from civilization your most immediate task is to find water. All else being equal, walk downhill, because water doesn’t travel uphill. Don’t think for a minute you can stop a bleeding artery with a leather belt by tugging on the end of it. You can’t. Learn how to make a tourniquet. It’s not that hard. Conserve energy and don’t climb cliffs. Wherever water is, there will likely be some way to get food because everything needs water. Learn to build 3 signal fires. Don’t put all of your supplies on one mule if you have four. Who would do that? There are a lot of other simple things but the main thing is common sense. This movie shows you how to best avoid using it.

this movie is one of those that you might not pick up to watch but its worth seeing and has some good twists that you dont expect

Good film. Sad ending. Got a bit slow in parts but very good watch anyway. I loved the locations especially the GBrand Canyon.

This movie was very entertaining. We have a young couple on a honeymoon. He wants to go into the Grand Canyon. with all the access to cell phones and the internet, he finds out you have to make reservations in advance for the mule trips into the canyon, duh!. Well, against the wife’s better judgement they find a guide who loves to hit the booze. The guide gets them into the canyon, gets himself snakebit and dies. The pack mules get away and our couple is on there own. It only gets worse from here. Attempts to get help on the good old cellphone fail, until finally, hanging on a ledge, they get out, momentarily, or do they? Well they fall he breaks his leg, they are stalked by wolves. This movie has an ending like Stephen King’s the Mist. I was left wondering why this couple wasn’t trying to find the one vital need when stranded, water. The good old cell phone will save the day, or will it? I found it entertaining because of the scenery and the drama keeps your attention. Well worth the time. Of course, like most Hollywood movies, they use scenes from places not even in the Grand Canyon. Such as the Antelope Canyon scenes. Now don’t get me wrong, I can enjoy a movie just for the scenery, this one qualifies. But it is near Page. When they are wandering around you can see iconic views of Monument Valley, also not in the Grand Canyon. What we have is city slickers with not enough sense to pour Pee out of a boot, but they have a cellphone. One can not let illogical moves in a movie to spoil the enjoyment. If you allow that, you probably should take a pass on all of Hollywood and stick to PBS.
