My brother and I have never been so invested in a show where we either cheer on or boo the outcome of an episode. It’s not deep, it’s not smart, it’s not really good. It’s just dumb fun. You don’t need to think about or invest much into it. It’s just all around fun.
Spoiler:
My brother and I are still legit annoyed the Native American warrior could take down a gladiator and we cheered so hard when the Roman kicked a ninjas ass.

My kids and I have loved this show for years and were thrilled to get Season 1 on dvd. When will they release season 2??

Great! A lot of fun being able to go back and watch this series chronologically and having the extras to go along with it i’ve never seen before. If you go to watch the aftermath extra of an episode though, I recommend you finish each episode first as these segments were filmed after the seasons completion and they use examples from each episode sometimes talking about the winner. Wish I could’ve found it on blu-ray but i’m happy with my purchase nonetheless, release season 2 on dvd / blu-ray!

I taught a Military History class to junior and seniors and created a unit called “Deadliest Warriors”. We watched a few of these shows, held debates about the outcomes and then had the students present their own deadliest warrior match up that had yet to be aired. All my history students love this series. I also make note of the different work profiles the experts on the show have to bring up careers related to computers, science and history.

ort review.
the dvd is a collection of season 1 , basically if like me you say the originals on spike TV then get a copy for your home so you can see the fantastic in depth analysis of the various weapons and fighting techniques on display .
Do note that season 2 is not available on dvd yet and even season 1 is amercian style ntsC format but that shouldn’t cause a problem with multi region DVD players now almost the normal .
Great value , great content , roll on seasno 2 please

Man I loved this show on Spike. Wish it was streaming somewhere for free but these DVDs of season one scratched the itch for now.

This was a great show and it was fun to watch each historian argue with one another. The only problem I see with this show is that it just isn’t really plausible. Of course we can match the weapons (power, use, flexibility, etc) against each other, but we can’t really match the wits or cunning of each single warrior. Do we really know how a ninja would react while fighting a Spartan? Sure up close the Spartan would own a ninja, but a ninja would never get close enough for that to happen. They aren’t stupid, nor were the Spartans. The Spartans fought in a phalanx and considered any type of “unorganized” fighting as very UnSpartan.
Two examples to help back up my opinion. We all know about the battle of Thermopylae, two of the 300 Spartans that were there came down with an eye disease and were subsequently sent home. One hung himself in dishonor and the other fought in the battle of Plataea and charged the Persians in a wild frenzy killing many eventually succumbing to his wounds. The Spartans considered this foolish and reprimanded him even though he was already dead. The second example was at one point the Spartan city was attacked (they didn’t have walls to protect their city because they considered them cowardly, though they did build walls towards the end of their era when they were no longer the Spartans of old) and one young Spartan charged the attacking force naked and alone and slew many of the enemy. After the battle was won, This young Spartan was both honored and reprimanded for his very UnSpartan behavior.
That said it was still cool to see a Spartan fighting a Ninja and that is what makes this show so much fun to watch though it would never happen in the way they portray it. I have to say that my example is only one of a very few that were actually illogical. Most of them would have been true if the two apposing warriors would have fought. As I said it’s hard to consider the actual mentality of each warrior. A Gladiator who is trained to fight in the arena isn’t going to be trained against the hit and run tactics of an Apache warrior. Though if he was trained against an Apache he would probably prevail.
This show is worth watching and is as entertaining as it is informative particularly in the weaponry of each warrior represented. Good show!

Deadliest Warrior: Season One is a unique and fantastic show that solves barroom questions such as “Can a Samurai beat a Viking?” or “Can an Apache beat a Gladiator?” for instance. The show is a blast to watch along with giving you a little background on the warriors featured. The Green Beret vs. Spetsnaz episode is just nuts when you get to it!
