So many nice changes to the game from even the PS2 version. Love the game. This plays I guess closest to FFXI but allows you to make gambits(conditionals like if HP < 70% cast cure) for your teammates.
For vets of the game, they got rid of spell queues where now everyone can cast magic at the same time (you still have to wait for spells to finish before casting another but now every can go at the same time), you can control espers/guests, more weapons, turbo mode, many FoL changes. It is worth getting this remaster even if you’ve played the other versions.

Finally, one of the best FF games gets ported to PC. Been waiting for this for over a decade. If you liked the original PS2 version and don’t mind that they built it on the bones of the “Japanese exclusive” Zodiac job system version, then you’re going to love it. It was a beautiful game back in ’06 but the PS2’s hardware couldn’t do it justice. Had to wait till I built my new PC rig with a 6850k, 32GB RAM, and a GTX 1080 before I could even run an emulated PS2 version properly. This is way better than that. The HD upgrade didn’t change the graphics. More like it smoothed them over and sharpened them but still stayed true to the original.

It definitely seems easier this time. I’m not running across so many disproportionately leveled creatures doing one hit kills on me early in the game. The combination of fast forward and almost instant respawn upon re-entering an area make chaining a dream. Takes less than an hour to chain 100 hyenas with a party of two.
I’m not a fan of how the Zodiac locks you into job classes or how no two characters have the same jobs. This game would be perfect if they let us choose whether we want a Zodiac or open class job system at the beginning of the game. Maybe someone can make a MOD for it.
On my system there are little, to no, load times for anything. The gameplay is absolutely smooth, with zero glitches or bugs so far. Haven’t tried the trials yet but definitely looking forward to it. Especially because the drops from stealing are very loose and you can steal from rare characters in the trials.
So far, this game absolutely rocks!!!
