This is a great book if you’re just getting interested in the market. There are histories on the different markets, tons of definitions, lots of strategies, and loads of awesome information in this book. It is very easy to read, very interesting and definitely worth while. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone.

This book essentially covers everything you’d need to know if you’re interested in knowing about the markets or trading. The real life examples and language is quite simple and effective, so it’s great for understanding!

The “Getting Going” series in the Wall Street Journal is a good one, well worth reading, and has helped the WSJ become more relevant to those of us who have less than a billion dollars net worth. (In my case, $999,999,999 less.) That’s why I had high hopes for this book. While it does its job admirably, the question is: What is it’s job? The title suggests it is “Complete” and a “Guidebook.” In reality, its job is to be “A brief, concise introduction at a high level to financial and economic terms.”
THAT job, it does admirably. You’ll get a overview of all the terms you’re likely to run into: stocks, bonds, options, futures, etc. But a brief overview is about all it does. There are some pearls, a few insightful comments, and (the best part) a nice selection of web sites for future reference.
If you’re looking for a quick read, and a concise overview of finances and American economics, this book is very good. But if you think it will actually help you do something practical with your own finances, you may be disappointed by its superficial treatment.
Scoring note: The book would have been a 4 if the title had been “A Brief Overview of American Economics and Investing.”

Everyone today spends little time going over their financial picture as people feel investing is too complicated in their busy world of working long hours along with responsibilty raising children etc. This book is written for the novice investor as well as the more advanced investor. It is easy to follow and should be kept on your night table so you can read a page or two each night It explains all the types of investments from money funds to stocks and bonds. Even if you have never read the Wall Street Journal the authors made the chapters interesting and easy to follow . All households should have one investing primer and this one is it. Hopefully you can grow your assets with the knowledge and advice you will obtain from this book. Pick it up today!

Clear and well written!

Comprensibile e scorrevole.
Will Korff –
This book has been an excellent starting point for me to learning the complexities of the world of finance. It will give the uninformed an excellently organized overview of all the places an average investor could potentially put his money along with the potential risks that come with any individual section of the financial market.
Plus at the end of every chapter, it gives suggested reading for gaining a more thorough understanding of each segment.
My Amazon wish list has grown exponentially, but I am excited to take a more active role in my financial future. Couldn’t be more pleased with the book.
Jürgen Lang –
Small but perfect introduction in the fascinating world of finance!
It contains interesting details about American companies, markets and money.
The charts, tables and Internet addresses are also great and useful.
Everything is written in simply terms.

The information provided in The Wall Street Journal Complete Money and Investing Guidebook gives a comprehensive look at the structure of financial markets. The title of this book can be misleading given that the information presented does not offer a guide on “how” to invest, merely a full scope of the elements of financial markets. This would be tantamount to an auto and driving book with a focus on the engine and instruments of the car as well as the highway and road systems, but not on the operation of the car itself. There is considerable importance in understanding the design of the financial markets and this book easily achieves success in this area; however, in terms of investment advice, this book represents only an initial foundation of knowledge.
For those with an interest in the historical background of financial markets and systems this book will be as enjoyable as it is informative. One also will acquire the full scope of financial terms needed to speak intelligently in the finance world. The presentation of the material is done quite well with an abundance of imagery. I would recommend The Wall Street Journal Complete Money and Investing Guidebook as a starter on the subject of finance and to anyone seeking to understand the fundamentals of the market.

Good book to read

Very easy read for those who known nothing to little about the financial system. If you are looking for a book on how to invest this is not it; this simply provides an easy to understand overview of all the investment options available. Also lists resources and others readings if you wish to get deeper into a topic.
Only downfall is that it is about 6 years out of date, but most everything still applies. Highly recommend to anyone who is in high school, college, or just beginning to invest.
