I ordered this for my grandson who absolutely loves putting stuff together. He is 10 years old and I wondered if it would be to hard for him to assemble. After about 5 hours he had it all together. Some parts of it were challenging to him but he figured it out. I love stuff like this that challenges the mind and doesn’t ” do it for you”. I am very impressed with the quality and appearance of the product. It works perfectly and he has played with it for hours. If you want to see your child challenged give this a shot. Your won’t be disappointed. Great value for the money.

This “Thames & Kosmos Hero: Sound-Sensing Robot STEM Experiment Kit, Build a Robot That Reacts to Sounds, Explore Engineering, Sound Technology, Spatial Hearing, Quality Screen-Free, Educational Play” is a pretty fun, and family friendly kit/set. The target age group is 8+ with adult’s help or 12+ for independent play; these are pretty appropriate. The build is pretty interesting, and the end robot is definitely fun. It is a great kit/toy to get your kids interested in STEM. There are quite some good STEM fundamentals that are conveyed in this kit, but I would have expected more. While the included projects are fun and cool, there is not much of it in terms of expandability. I would have expected more, that maybe there is a website or so that keep on coming out with new projects, but there is none, and for that, I think $65 is a bit to the pricey side.
Thank you for reading this review, I hope that this review is helpful to you in support of your purchase decision.

I ordered this sound sensing robot project for my kids to build together. It seemed to be quite the challenge upon opening the box, but turned out to be easier to build than expected and good quality. It functions well and is really fun to figure out!

I saw thisStem Thames and Cosmos robot kit, and knew my 12 year old grandson would love it! He’s been doing building sets for years, and I thought he would find this engineering kit interesting. This says under age 12 may require help, and 12 and over should be able to do this by themselves. My grandson was able to put this together by himself with only one or to questions. He loves that this little robot is able to follow him around!
This robotic building kit is pretty easy to assemble, it’s very durable, it’s definitely fun, and is a great value for the quality and performance!

I got this Thames & Kosmos Hero: Sound-Sensing Robot STEM Experiment Kit to build with my daughters. The instructions were easy enough to follow that even my 9-year-old had no trouble navigating the build with supervision. All the parts were of high quality and labeled well. It should be noted that some parts had excess plastic that needed to be filed down, so keeping clippers on hand for this purpose will be helpful.
The functionality of the robot was good; although for the robot to “hear” the clicks, we pretty much had to be right on top of it.
Overall, this was a truly fun build. It was exciting to see my youngest daughter, in particular, get so excited about building it and learning what everything did. She never lost interest, despite the fact it took us about five days to assemble with multiple hours in each day.

I got this robot for my 8-year-old son for his birthday. The directions for this robot looked complicated at first. Then we realized that every piece was labeled with a letter and number. The letter referenced which punch-out tray the piece was on, and each piece was labeled by a number on each tray. So it gives the exact piece needed for that step, which eliminated a lot of the confusion. It made building this robot so much less complicated. That was a relief for both of us.
The process is still quite intricate. It takes a lot of concentration, and determination to build. We have worked on this robot one night a week for over two months now, and we are only half way done. It’s a lot of tiny pieces that go in even smaller places, which makes it impossible for me to help him with the actual building. I can find the correct pieces, but putting them together can only be done by him. That’s why we only work on it one night a week. If we worked on it more often I think he would probably give up on building it.

My son is getting into thing like building robots, kits like this help him realize his goals without the huge hurdles people have to commit to when making their own from scratch. It does require quite a bit of assembly, needing some 140 parts to come together, but it was a fun experience. My son is 10 years old and has some problems with dexterity, so some help was still needed but he was excited to build it with my help. We only just started to experiment with it as it were, but the assembly was fun enough on its’ own, like upgrade to blocks.
