I’m sure this book would be a great user friendly introduction to linux if I could actually get the disk to work. I have tried a number of times to install the distro on my acer aspire E15 which is currently running windows 10. I have tried to get it to dual boot as I absolutely have to have a windows partition for work and university purposes. The install has never seemed to work properly. I have read a number of forums where the uefi issue is discussed and solutions given, however, I am completely new to linux and do not have the requisite knowledge to get it to work.
It seems to defeat the purpose of having a beginners book by giving a CD/DVD which will not work. If I had the knowledge to get the distro up and running using various work- arounds I would not need this book.

I am very unhappy with InformIT with this release of Ubuntu Unleashed 2017 as Sams/Informant have failed in their promise to provide updates to the book in pdf format as they did with previous versions and even now, they have not updated to 17.10, online or anywhere. It only covers 16.04 which was “current” at time of publication. I will not be buying any future editions for this book. It is not cheap and was bought on the condition there would be the updates and I did not buy knowingly as a “web content only” edition.
