I’ve been using the HP-1010 on my Acura and Subaru vehicles for 15+ years. I like the 1″ hex welded on to make removal very easy and I like the safety wire holes.
That all said it appears K&N has discontinued the HP-1010 and replaced it with a smaller HP-1008. What I ordered from Amazon was the -1010, without any communication they shipped the -1008. I expected better communication rather than just substituting the different filter. And they charged me the $18.49 for the -1010 while shipping the $15.99 -1008. ie, they overcharged me ~$5.00.
All this said, I wrote to K&N regarding the discontinuation and replacement with the smaller filter about 10 days ago. They have not deemed it necessary to respond.

I have trusted my cars to K&N Gold filters for decades. They are a reliably consistent high quality product AND the nut on the end has made my oil changing services SO much easier. If the K&N Gold is made for my car, that is what I will buy every time. Currently run them in 2003 Ford Cobra, 2016 Chevy Volt, 2016 Mazda CX-5, and so many other past cars.

I’ve been using K&N products for over 40 years and I’ve never had a single problem with any of their products. Their oil filters are some of the very best on the market today! I also really like the Mobil 1 oil filters and found that both of these oil filters do an excellent job of filtering out junk in the oil. I change my oil every 5000 miles on all of my cars, but every 3000 miles on my 4-cylinder MX-5. It’s much cheaper to change the oil more often than replace an engine, LOL. Just for info, I use K&N oil filters on all my cars except the Miata. It just seems to run better and cleaner with the Mobil ! filter.

I use these filters all the time on my car, it has a performance engine so oil and filters need to do a good job. These have never failed me. I do my own oil changes and the welded nut on the base of the filter makes it easy to loosen it when it’s time for a change. The seal on the top face has never failed me staying sealed against the engine. Screwing the filters on and off the car is easy as the threads are always clean cut. Filtration must be good as when I check my old oil there is no debris in it and no particles stuck tho the magnetic drain plug in the sump

I got this for my MX-5 ND2 Miata and it seems to work well. The filter seems to be of the better made at a reasonable cost, all while sealing and fitting perfectly for my car. It’s also a breeze to install since only a socket wrench is needed to loosen/tighten the grip/threads.
