I ended up getting a fake counterfit filter that was way thinner than any oil filter I have ever seen before.

UPDATE: One year later, I changed the oil filter after 15,500 miles (was paired with Supertech advanced full synthetic oil 20000) and the oil seemed to be free of particles. The filter was intact and filled with particles but nevertheless in good condition after so many miles. My car engine felt good over the 15,500 miles – very smooth. I am now a big fan of BOSS Purolator filters. I believe that this is the best oil filter as the its made of quality materials. Well worth the money. There are some videos on youtube explaining the materials in the filter. I highly recommend this filter!

Perfect fit for a 2012 Toyota rav4 V6. The quality of this Purolator Boss filter is superb. There are some reviews on Amazon with concerns about the small size of the filter. I don’t think this is an issue as the filter seems to be made of high quality material compared to the bigger non-synthetic filters.

check out “brand ranks” on youtube. they do very scientific tests on oil filters and the purolator boss proved to be the best out of around 20 different brands

dont trust someone who has no evidence that X brand is best because its what they use. go with actual testing that shows you the differences. even if purolator is the best, if one performs better in the cold or hot for your environment, thats important information for you(they test cold and hot flow in the videos)

    8/24/2024 Update

The family had a road trip and the car is at 8k miles with the Purolator Boss filter and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Checked the oil and surprised that it looks almost as clean as the day we put in the oil. This is my now go to set up for most of my cars. Too bad they don’t make this filter for the Toyota hybrids.

Base on all of the research, Purolator boss is the only filter that is for fully synthetic. I haven’t done enough of my personal research to see if it is worth the price jump. This specific purolator boss cost more than other purolator boss without the can. This one specifically was for my 2014 Toyota Sienna XLE. I don’t under stand with my Mazda that comes with the thickest can to protect the pressure yet with this model, you’re just a filter by itself with near twice the cost. Make it make sense. I’ll still buy it btw base on the research.

    Update 9/8/2024

    2014 Toyota Sienna XLE

Changed with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum at 205948 miles. Changed out with Platinum High Mileage at 214728. Will update for high mileage.

Almost 9k miles and the oil looked clean on the dip stick. It was kind of brown coming out the drain. I matched the oil with the Purolator Boss. I used to do my oil change at the Valvoline stations. I stopped trusting them after they left the old filter on. Also, they use the lowest grade oil and filter. It used to look dark brown at 4-5k miles. It looked black referring to the manual change intervals at 8k miles. This is by far my best set up for oil changes. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w-20 and Purolator Boss. I use the same set up for my 2016 Mazda 3 2.5L. This is the only oil change set up that I would suggest if you’re planning to go with your manual oil change intervals which is usually higher than suggested.

Based on online tests, the Purolator Boss are probably the best filters available. They filter well, flow well in cold weather, and hold much more than most. Highly recommended.

Purolator filters are quality and have worked well for me regardless of make and model of vehicle. I have always changed my own oil and I use Purolator when possible. My 2012 Toyota Sienna has 15K miles on it and after the first change I replaced the OEM filter with this Purolator. I don’t remember the OEM having black rubber caps on top and bottom but maybe it did. Regardless the element is what catches the dirt and debris and I believe the stock photo is for general representation. The Purolator costs less and I can get it at Advance Auto Parts which is much closer than the Toyota dealership. Amazon’s price is more than $2 cheaper and since I am a frequent Amazon shopper I just pair it with other purchases and shipping is free! I also use a Purolator filter on my wife’s 2011 Hyundai Sonata (L14459).
