Just what the shop needed

This set weighs about 75 lbs. The case cracked during shipment and some parts were missing when it arrived. Amazon shipped a replacement without a hassle. The second kit also arrived with the case unlatched too, but all parts were there. This box also had some plastic straps on the outside of the cardboard box which probably kept the case closed enough. I have only used the spreader clam in a car frame rail and seems to be okay quality. The spreader clam measures 2 3/8″ at the widest part (hinge pin). OTC sells reseal kits if it ever wears out.

Packing was poor, case was damaged. Hinge for case had slipped almost out as keeper on one side was missing. Some components were loose and had come out of the case. Haven’t used the item.

I had very good experience with the OTC branded tools in the past, this was the reason I chose this one over the $200 alternative from other suppliers.
Didn’t do a side by size comparison, but it didn’t appear any different than the other 10 ton import sets. Rough castings, threads painted over…
I went ahead and used it a couple of times in the “push” configuration, and it performed okay.
However, when I tried to use it as spreader, the toe just would not screw on to the top of the cylinder. I tried to clean up the threads, still no go. Turned out that the pilot section of the male thread was quite a few thousands larger than the thread’s minor dia. Had to shave it down in the lathe to get going.
Fast forward one month and 2 more uses, the pump quit working. The ram just goes back and forth with every stroke.
Overall, looks like the same “hit or miss” deal as other cheap import tools, just 65% more expensive.
