I have a 2011 Highlander Limited which was dealer maintained since new until my Toyota maintenance plan ran out, I did my own oil change after that. Was using 0W20 Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter every 4K mile OCI. At 120K miles, I noticed a slight ticking noise on the engine at operating temperature, no ticking on start up or on cold engine. I didn’t mind it because it comes and goes. It’s not noticeable during winter weather but started to be louder and persistent during summer esp when it’s 100F. Went to an independent shop and had them listen to the engine and they said it sounds like a lifter ticking on bank 2, went for a 2nd opinion, had the Toyota master tech listen to it and he too said it sounds like lifter tick. I asked him how much would it cost to fix it, he said it’s an engine out job and labor is pricey. The engine runs fine, no oil consumption issues, no loss of power, idles perfectly so I just told myself I’ll just drive this until the engine dies. It’s just so annoying to hear the ticking sound. Was told by a friend with the same issue (2grfe engine), to change to a higher grade oil, I tried Pennzoil platinum 0w30, ticking sound still persisted. Fast forward 138K miles, came across Lake Speed video on Valvoline R&P oil and in time for my scheduled oil change, bought the Valvoline R&P 0W20 5 qt jug at Walmart for$29,( bought 2 jugs, cheaper than buying 2 one qt bottle) Mobil 1 filter and changed the oil. Less than 100 miles on this oil, the ticking sound diminished greatly. After 1000 miles I couldn’t hear the ticking sound even at long drives and at over 100F weather. Changed the oil after 2000 miles and it was dark. Did not find any sediments on the filter though. Will run the next oil for 3000 miles and see if it’s still dark. Don’t really know what the problem was, (sticky lifter?, sludge formation?, kind of oil?). Just happy the ticking sound is gone and not have the engine pulled out of the car. Out of stock in Walmart, cheaper on Amazon.

My wife’s car had greatly reduced oil consumption after 500 miles of the oil change. About 1 quart every 1,000 miles. After 500 miles there wasn’t any noticeable oil consumption. Good stuff.

The Oil does what it says! I have seen an improvement in my 60K miles 2019 3.5 turbo F150. Performance and MPG. It’s not huge, but improvement is improvement.
The shipping was horrible! The engine oil leaked, the box was COMPLETELY SOAKED. Someone during the shipping had to place the box into a plastic bag, that bag did not contain the leaking oil. When delivered and placed in my driveway the oil still leaked and stained my concrete driveway. I will never order engine oil from Amazon again.

I have only used Restore & Protect once so far but immediately noticed smoother, quieter engine. I’m due for an oil change in about a week so curious to see what comes out and how inside the valve cover looks. I wish I had gotten a look before the first oil change but will document after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to see what happens. I am only running this oil for 3500-5000 miles as I drive around 150 miles a day for work; 80 miles/1.5 hours in the morning and 70 miles/ 1.75 hours on the way home, and I tend to like to wind the gears out, put it this way, gas mileage is not my focus, shaving time off the drive is, I’m not running her super hard but I am not taking it easy either so an 1.75 hours of that for 750 miles a week, I rather be safe than sorry. I will say, after a few tanks of gas I have noticed a 1-2mpg increase after first oil change but temps have gone down from the 60’s to the 30’s recently so I can’t honestly say that’s from the oil. But will update with findings.

Update: Just did second oil change with Restore & Protect. Pictures are from between 1st & 2nd oil change. I wish I had remembered to get pictures from before the 1st oil change. Car is a 2015 Mazda 3 with the 2.0L Skyactiv and manual trans, has 132,XXX on engine. Have put 29,000 miles on it this year and this is how inside the valve cover looks after 1st oil change with Restore & Protect…. But I guess this is pretty pointless without before pictures but still I’m surprised how clean it looks. Do with this what you will.

I’ve been dealing with slow oil loss for a while and a lot of convenience stores seem not to carry much 5W-20 oil, and even less of the full-synthetic stuff. I prefer to match what’s already in my car, so being able to order one-quart bottles off Amazon is a boon. This has served me well, as has the Valvoline brand in general, without breaking my budget. Definitely a thumbs up, though I don’t know enough about auto maintenance or motor oil to go more in-depth than that.

Theory behind the product is great. Several videos on YouTube on how it works.bybthe motor oil geek. It doesn’t fix engines. It helps with repeated use to clean internal engine parts which can reduce oil usage. Don’t forget to use a good oil filter too. Purolator Boss is what I use.
