This bike really surpassed my expectations. I based my purchase off of other reviews found here on Amazon and thought, well this bike should be OK and expected there to be things that I would simply have to deal with since it was an entry-level priced Fat Tire Bike. However, it worked perfectly right out of the box. Now I did do some minor customizations to suit my preferences, but they honestly weren’t needed. Those changes were that I replaced the stock seat with a larger more comfortable one. The stock one is of pretty high quality. It’s just a bit small and hard like all of the other stock bike seats out there. I swapped out the straight mountain bike style handlebars for custom cruiser handlebars to allow for a more erect sitting position. In changing out the handlebars I found that unless you have immense patience and perseverance then it’s easier to simply replace the stock handgrips with new ones. I chose comfort grip handgrips that help alleviate hand fatigue or carpal tunnel syndrome. They worked perfectly. One thing to note here is that I didn’t need to change out the shifter lines or brake lines at all like others said when they modified their bikes. I found that simply rerouting the cables slightly left ample line length on them to reach the new handlebars. Before you ride I suggest using some Light Spray Oil On the chain and other moving surfaces. Except for the brakes of course. I also suggest pumping up the tires to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall if you happen to be riding on paved roads or happen to be a person like me who weighs over 200 pounds because the tires do have a lot of flex at lower pressures and will bottom out on the rim at lower pressures with riders weighing above 200 pounds. The gears do shift really smoothly. However, I will admit that having only 7 speeds is taking some getting used to, but for the average person who goes off road only occasionally, seven speeds are enough. It also does not feel like it’s a heavy bike at all. It’s obviously a bit heavier than my Schwinn aluminum frame mountain bike, but that is a serious off-road mountain bike. I bought the Mongoose Malus for cruising parks, boardwalks, and my neighborhood. That is where this bike seems to shine because it is really comfortable and an uncomplicated ride. If you’re looking to get onto a Fat Tire bike to see if you like it but don’t want to break the bank then I can comfortably say that the Mongoose Men’s Malus Cruiser Bike is a fine way to do that. If you’re a professional bike rider looking for some fat tire powerhouse bike to storm through incredible terrain then you certainly won’t be interested in this bike, but then again hardcore bikers looking for specific name brand bikes probably aren’t shopping for their bikes on Amazon anyway. Take this review for what it is. One person’s opinion of a bike that they like for what it is… A solid entry-level Fat Tire Bike for the Average Joe. Peace.

Okay so I am going to start with the Pros:
1) The bicycle frame seems very sturdy, and the black with white accents on the steel frame is sharp – as are the black aluminum rims.
2) The bike is MOSTLY assembled in the package.
3) The wheels are fantastic, you can just ignore so many obstructions with this thing while on the trails.
Now for the CONS:
1) The Price. I don’t know who wants to wake up these bicycle companies about it but Covid 19 causing a supply deficit can’t be used as an excuse anymore. I am CERTAIN that the supply and demand has balanced out by now. Y’all are just greedy and don’t want to go back to the proper cost balance because you can make more this way and it is messed up. The cost of bicycles in general is ridiculous. This bike went for around $400 before Covid and I had to fork over more than $900 that is Corporate Greed at its finest.
2) The weight, Just so you guys know this bike is made with a Steel frame – as they state – and it is HEAVY.
3) The brakes – because of the weight of the bike in particular – take quite a bit of time to engage and bring you to a stop – I recommend using the rear and then the front brakes to ensure a safe stop. If these brakes were on a lighter weight bicycle I am sure they would perform much better.
4) The seat. It is far too firm. Also the seat post assembly does not like to stay where it is, the seat will shift downward if too much pressure is applied to it and that is a problem for people that don’t like to smash their scrotum against their seat – which I am certain is most of us.
5) The assembly instructions. They suck, there is no ifs ands or buts about this one… They hand you a “generic” assembly guide and expect you to figure it out. Just based on the simple fact of how grossly they overpriced this product you would expect them to at least provide proper building instructions. But alas that is not the case here.
6) This is a specific one directed to Purolator – and whichever other channels that this bicycle went through to make it to my doorstep – not the seller so I will not blame the seller for this one. BUT there was a hole in the bottom, and side of the box they delivered this in. There were ALSO loose components in the bottom of the box that were necessary. It was a MIRACLE that nothing was lost due to this oversight on the packaging.
In summation:
Solid bike, Great frame and wheels, not without its flaws, RIDICULOUS price, Braking is challenging due to bike weight being so heavy, Seat and Seat Assembly just suck all around. Instructions are wrong and just generalized, and your delivery method needs to be more CAREFUL. My advice, just wait until prices go down, and save yourself the heartache and ridiculous pricing.

This is not a good choice for a bike snob, but you know that already, right? This is a cheap fat bike for someone who doesn’t want to spend 3 to 4 times as much on an “entry level” unit at their local bike shop.
I ride a fairly decent road bike during spring to fall, and picked one of these up for the winter. Yes, it’s a definite step down in terms of overall quality. If I wanted to, I could replace a whole bunch of the components to make it a lot nicer. But is it perfectly acceptable for my 15-minute winter commute? The answer is of course yes. I’m satisfied, especially given the price point I was able to snag it at.

Simply put, this is a fantastic fat tire bike for the incredible price of less than $250. I’ve already put in over 60 miles in the last couple of weeks, and it’s just a joy to ride. I was pleasantly surprised at the power/torque this bike has when tackling hills. I was a bit worried about how it would handle steep inclines given its weight, but man… the first steep elevated trail bridge I climbed, I easily outpaced others who were riding multi-geared road bikes. This puppy can also easily take off from a standstill with little effort.
I was originally looking for a bike with a smooth ride for suburban/trail biking, and this has proven to be exactly what I wanted. This is by far the least expensive bike I’ve ever purchased, but it’s also the MOST FUN I’ve ever ridden! I’m sure the $2,000 – $6,000 fat tire bikes would smoke this in a heartbeat, but seriously… for under $250, this thing over-delivers! Rides really well on paved and gravel paths. Plus, it’s always a hoot to hear the various comments from others who’ve never seen a fat tire bike before!
Is it perfect? No. The one thing I would recommend that everyone upgrades immediately is the seat. I know that bike seat comfort is highly personal and subjective, but I found the factory seat to just be rock hard and uncomfortable for any ride over a few miles. So for another small investment of $45 for a quality seat, I’m sitting comfortably at 20+ mile rides with no complaints.
Pros:
– Low cost but solid quality
– FUN to ride. There’s nothing like fat tire biking.
– Nice power/torque. Easy hill climbing and quick take offs.
– Fairly easy to assemble.
Cons:
– Factory seat is a bit hard. Recommend replacing ASAP.
– Mine was missing a nut for the front tire assembly… minor inconvenience though.

I’m not a bike snob by any means, I am an avid bike enthusiast on a budget. I have my primary bikes that are setup the way I like and wanted to get a basic fat tire bike for snow but didn’t want to go all out in case it’s not as fun as I feel it will be. I landed on the mongoose. Local big box store stocks these bikes and I had looked at one before. I like the rigid front fork, cheap front suspension can be pretty junky in my experience. Also like that it’s just a 7 speed, once again less cheap junk to deal with. The disc brakes are basic cable pull but seem to work well. Rear derailleur is an entry level Shimano and doesn’t have the best tension but after some fine tuning adjustments it makes it through all the gears properly. Local bike stores carry better setups for like 40 bucks and I will likely do that. Not a fan of grip shift but it is what it is. Read other reviews that mentioned bearing problems and a couple that said they were able to adjust and fix. I agree and highly recommend adjusting both front and rear wheel bearings. Both front and rear bearings were too tight. Rear wasn’t terrible but the front was hard to roll. While apart I added more grease and was able to get them spinning freely with no play. Rims are cheap, but again it is what it is, i just hope they stay somewhat straight. Haven’t put a ton of ride time on the bike yet but so far I’m happy with how it turned out. Will try to update after a couple months in the Wisconsin snow to see how it’s holding up.

Arrived a day early in great shape. Easy to assemble and seems to be very good quality. Took it to the beach first day preformed well . Great value compared to the astonishing prices I have seen for similar bikes . I will be using this bike on the beach and don’t need a two thousand dollar bike to rust away. I will probably be buying a second for my daughter she enjoyed riding it as well .
