I’ve been looking for an affordable stack cymbal that sounds great. If you want to get into MEINL Cymbals like I do, this is a great place to start. If the stack is loose, it sounds nice and washy. If the stack is tight, it sounds nice and crunchy. A little bright, but an incredible cymbal.

Sound in real life is much more dull than anything i could find online. They are very very dull as a stack. Separately still dull, but less than as a stack.

I didn’t want to spend a ton of money, but really wanted the “slap-smack-clap-whatever you want to call it-” stack sound. I went w/ Meinl (first time I bought them) since they have an affordable option (HCS stack), and I’m really glad I did. I bought the 5 piece to be able to experiment and get the sounds I want, and it’s been worth the extra money to have the different options.

I love the sound and the cymbals have enough to cut thru other instruments when playing w/ a band. They sound good when recording too. As w/ any cymbal… tightening and loosening the wingnut is also key to completely varying the sustain and choke with these. Definitely fun to experiment with.

My ONLY complaint was the packaging!! I think someone else commented on this too. IDK if it’s Amazon or the seller, but seriously. The cymbals arrived in this thin, compacted, two pieces of cardboard sandwiched together, package. No barriers between the cymbals and I thought for sure that they would be flattened pancakes because they were almost flat when I got the box (as you know, they should have a curve to them). Thankfully, they were fine…. but seriously. When I order drumsticks, I get a massive box I could fit a ride cymbal in, but when I order cymbals, I get this rickety, jankety, makeshift box where the cymbals are nearly popping out the edges of the package.
