I read lots of reviews and listened to lots of shoot-outs between ride cymbals in the sub $200 range. Everything kept pointing towards the Paiste PST7 range as the best option (all three sounded good and I went with the medium). I couldn’t be happier with my purchase, in just a couple days my drum teacher noticed the improvement in my technique because this cymbal is so much more responsive and musical than what I had before (Pearl CX series – brass probably?). It is a relatively bright cymbal with a very even frequency distribution across it’s total tonality. My old cymbal was very low pitched, and the low frequencies dominated making it very trashy and overly washy where the ping couldn’t cut through. The PST7 ride has a great stick response with a nice bright sharp ping, you can certainly wash and crash well with this cymbal too. The bell is also very responsive. It’s a balanced and musical sound all the way through all the different techniques, genres, and playing styles. It sounds much better than its price tag. I’m super happy with this purchase and imagine it’ll meet my needs for years to come.

Been using an Earth Ride from the 70s for 5 yrs–
think of Quasimodo’s baneful tower bells.
This is a beautiful new sound in the atmosphere.
I likes to play the funk, and it ain’t bad for that, cat!

I bought this cymbal to replace a Zildjian ride that I found to be roughly 45 years old at this point and was starting to sound a little dull. The Paiste Medium ride definitely has a bright sound and the bell cuts nicely. Paiste’s website has recordings of all their cymbals and due to the high standard of crafting, the sound you hear from the Sound Room is exactly the real cymbal sound.
