Super compact, with tons of features for DAW control. Love that is has so many presets built in as well, just make sure you contact support if you have an issue as they are very helpful. No issues on new Mac M2/M3 in my studio.

The controller would not connect to my new in 2024 MacBook Pro. Also, the firmware update would not work.

A couple of tips to help you out:
    1. If you have an ARM Mac, and the controller is not recognized, connect it through a hub.
    2. It’s possible to power the controller through the USB data port, but only if your hub/computer provides sufficient power to the controller. If there isn’t sufficient power, the controller will lock up. For reliable performance, use discrete power, as specified.

iCON should do a better job documenting and supporting this new line of controllers. The documentation is minimal, and you’ll need to figure things out. Once you solve all the configuration puzzles, it works well, and I love the configurable touch screen.

Had erratic connectivity\functionality out of the box on USB with supplied cable, timecode display did not update correctly with the counter in DP11 and the zoom\scroll buttons worked intermittently, other functions worked OK – disappointing as MOTU claim to provide support for the Icon surfaces. Unable to flash firmware as the unit would not go into firmware mode. After several hours and more reboots the unit failed to even be detected in Device Manager, different cables & ports were tried with no resolution. Returned for refund.

    Unboxing Review:
This product will likely be returned. The configuration software for macOS is unsigned and therefore cannot be installed due to Gatekeeper. I haven’t had the chance to investigate workarounds yet, but I know there’s likely a command-line hack available. However, at this price point, I shouldn’t have to resort to such measures.

I managed to complete an initial configuration using a Windows PC, but there’s odd behavior when using it with my M1 MacBook. Specifically, the device only connects when using a hub or dock; it won’t connect directly to the computer.

The hardware itself is well-designed. It’s a good size for an average desktop, and for reference, the included photo shows it next to a Magic Trackpad for scale. The build is entirely plastic, but the OLED displays are bright and have wide viewing angles. The touch buttons reliably register input, but there’s no haptic feedback. This can be confusing if you press an unassigned button and expect a response, as it might seem like the button wasn’t pressed at all. On the other hand, the motorized fader is a standout feature and works impressively.

If iCON (given their Apple-inspired capitalization, you’d expect better macOS support) updates their configuration software to be compatible with macOS, I’d immediately add a star to my rating. Once I’ve fully set up the controls to my liking, I’ll update this review. My initial impression, however, is that the company still has some work to do.
