Very portable and sturdy when set up. Pretty light weight and easily goes over your shoulder. Make sure to purchase a carrying bag along with it.

This bassoon stand is pricey, but worth it. It feels very strong and durable. My bassoon feels very stable and secure on it. It folds up very compactly for transport. It is a bit heavy, which is good for holding the bassoon, but adds significant weight when you’re traveling with it.

This is a great stand that has the capability to screw on more hercules pegs. These pegs allow the stand to carry 2 extra clarinets /flutes.

I am a percussionist and have been all my life. But I have also always loved the bassoon. It is the most beautiful instrument in the orchestra. Three months ago I began lessons on the bassoon. I am certain I have done things in my life that were more difficult; I just can’t remember right off what they were. At any rate, one learns rather quickly that a stand is indispensable. After checking local and web vendors, I decided to purchase this stand, primarily for the cost. I found it is quite easy to spend considerably more for this item. It works well for my bassoon, however it is now holding my wife’s bass clarinet at the community theater where we are currently presenting “Oliver”. I recommend this stand for its security, ease of handling, and cost.

Having had an opportunity to use the stand for awhile, I must revise my initial review. One day I found my instrument on the floor. It had fallen from the stand because the rubber underneath the cup which holds the base of the bassoon had cracked, causing the cup to collapse and allowing the bassoon to slip out of the cup and hit the floor. The instrument was not damaged. I contacted Hercules and was sent a new cup. That’s all well and good, but I expect the same failure will recur. My ingenious father-in-law had a better solution; he crafted a replacement from a sink plunger. No mishaps since then.

I’ve used Hercules stands for years, previously using a set for my saxophones, and I got this one because I started becoming more active on bass clarinet. The adjustable arm makes it super easy to rest a low C bass clarinet and recently come to find that it also supports contrabass clarinets as well. It looks a funky at first, but the stand is stable holding up my paperclip. It also folds easily so I can carry it in a drawstring bag.

One recent caveat that I’ve found is that – maybe it’s a natural consequence of using it with my paperclip, the base area that holds the spring part has worn out a little so the spring isn’t held in it’s nook when I rest my contra. The arm still has another support below it so it’s lean is limited and won’t fall over, but was initially disappointing to find out. However, the stand still does well in holding my low clarinets.

I can now feel confident when I leave my bassoon out after practicing, it will safe from falling. I probably wouldn’t take it to rehearsals due to it’s size but at home, it’s perfect.
