For me, Boss products have been consistently good purchases. In many ways, this tuner is no exception…It is very accurate and can be read in bright light. However, it is a highly sensitive tuner which, at least for me, means it takes longer to get my guitar “tuned” which is not a problem in the studio but problematic for live audience work. The cost of this tuner is higher than other “clip on” tuners so I’m inclined to down grade it’s overall value for the money….If you have plenty of time and money….it will tune your guitar beautifully.

It isn’t as precise as I would have liked as previously used TU-12, but it hangs on my headstock for just over $25. It’s out of the way, stays on guitar in case, requires no additional cables, and inexpensive. I got another immediately – dedicated to each guitar. I used it for adjusting bridge intonation (strat) and was satisfactory. The only disadvantage over the larger (older) TU-12 is non mechanical meter. Sounds archaic, but the TU-12 meter does better job of averaging the signal. An inherent result of electro-mechanical spring design. Otherwise, the TU-10 is the go to tuner.

This electronic tuner turned out to be a wonderful surprise. Very accurate, very precise, down to a few cents. I tried this on electric and acoustic 6-string guitars with the same success. As long as your guitars are set up right, everything will be in tune.

It isn’t limited to standard EADGBE tuning either. You can downtune or use alternate tunings and it will recognize the pitches. It will recognize fretted notes too, which is useful particularly when you have higher action and more neck relief. When you pick hard, the meter reflects the upward change of pitch and moves down with the decay. So it’s great to have a tuner that detects the pitch as it evolves in real time.

The meter has the A440 tuning in the center line, with 50 cents below and above, with notches representing 2 cent intervals. If you wanted to tune your guitar down and 8th tone for some reason, you could do it with this tuner.

One small quibble: I found that when using it on a Precision bass guitar, it doesn’t consistantly recognize the low E string. You can work around it by playing a 12th fret harmonic on that string, but still. Presumably, this would be the same problem with the low B string on a 5-string bass.

Otherwise, this was a good purchase and very useful. It gets the job done.

Some items you feel happy to have. This is one. It works well, looks good, and feels good.

Two complaints: The black and white option is too dark to see well, but I think I will mainly use the color tuning option. The other is that the material is not guaranteed for use on guitars with a nitro finish (nitrocellulose lacquer), like I have on my Gibson Songwriter guitar. Why wouldn’t they make it for that, like Planet Waves does? Or like they use on the Hercules guitar stand? I’m taking a chance and still using it! (Boss/Roland advised that it’s at my risk, but if not left on for a long time it shouldn’t be a problem. Though they also had the odd response that there are not that many nitro-finish guitars out there.)

Also, if you are playing left-handed, with the guitar turned the other direction, the head doesn’t swivel, so you will have to clip it sidewise on the headstock and read it upside down.

I have liked this tuner for many years and have had three of them. One was lost, another mutilated by a dog and then this last purchased this year. The mutilated oner still works and is a testament to its rugged construction. They are more expensive than the cute small tuners on the market. This one never seems to fail and I do have some of the other cheaper ones. Excellent quality and readability.

I’ve used the Snark. – which the ball joint on the pivot head broke twice, rendering it useless. The Korg Aw-lt100g (the tuning on the display jumps around too much) – Korg said they had a special circuit for accuracy, whatever?? it’s annoying. So far this Boss is the best. They advertise that the clip doesn’t break. But that’s because it doesn’t pivot, which makes it a little harder to see. but it’s easy to get used to it. They could have designed a pivot, so I don’t consider the design an advantage. The clip itself is really strong. The tuning seems more accurate than the other 2. I’ve checked it with a built in tuner on my acoustic guitar. My experience with Boss stuff has been really good.

I mainly selected this tuner because it looked well designed and I’ve always been satisfied with the quality of Boss products. Its low profile, sturdy design eliminates a potentially vulnerable, weak spot where the tuner head/screen can break off where it attaches to the clip. The tuners that look like the head and clip are connected at one little area with a ball joint or stem seem like they would be much more prone to breakage than this one. I would also think the Boss’ design allows it to more readily pick up vibrations from whatever it is clipped on.

The battery life is impressive. I’ve owned it for more than three years now and am still on the original battery. I use it on acoustic guitars (nylon string, steel string, 12 string, lap steel), electric guitars, electric bass, and ukulele and it’s had no difficulties finding the correct pitch. I only use the default mode (the one shown on the screen in the product photo). It’s the first clip-on and digital tuner of this sort that I’ve owned, so I can’t compare its performance with any others, but I believe it is quite accurate. The instruments I tune with it always match up with my keyboard and any previously recorded music I might play along with. I’m glad I finally bought one of these tuners. It’s been a very useful thing to have around, especially when recording.
