The unit I received was too quite compare to other mics. With phantom power on and gain crank to 50dB, it was still too quite. Had to return it. It might be a single defective unit and not a global issue.
Alchemist FPV –
Excelente micrófono, me esfuerzo menos para que se escuche mi voz al cantar. Lo recomiendo.

This handheld mic is similar in performance to the Beta 87 with the feeling of auto-compression as you sing, but if you’ve got any power to your voice, the 87 exhibits a “sizzle” in the upper mids that I find unpleasant. There’s no such overload using the SM86, and more, when you ease off the mic, there’s a nice bloom of openness. The detail and interest in midrange is breathtaking for this being a handheld. A friend recommended this mic, who himself became a fan after meeting the vocalist of NeedToBreathe, who was singing through an SM86 at the time. I formerly have been singing into a Sennheiser e935, which is also a great mic. The 935 is similar to the Beta 58, but can be gained higher before overload and this dynamic mic is still useful to me in a band setting on a small stage. When I have a larger stage or perform solo, the SM86 is my mic of choice.
If you’re the kind of vocalist that sings with a lot of dynamic and who’s not crammed into a small space with drums or horns, this is the sleeper mic you’ve been looking for.

Decided to use this over the Beta 87A and I think it has a richer tone for my voice! Love this mic!

El sonido muy bueno instalación

Love this mic sooo much better than the sm58. It’s nice to have a vocal mic at a good price.
vincenzo messina –
Lo trovo incredibilmente versatile, ottimo sulle voci, molto realistico, un SM58 a condensatore per intenderci. Non lo considera mai nessuno ma secondo me vale molto per quel che costa.
Bronson VanWagoner –
This microphone sounds great. Like all mics the reviews can vary from person to person, but I personally love this microphone. It is clear, a tiny boosted in the Hi end (which makes some people not like it), but it does the job and handles processing well.

Received product in timely manner but when plugged in I could hear something if I tapped on the side of mic but nothing from the direction you would sing through. Plugged in another condenser and it was fine so something was oddly going on with that mic so I had to return. Have not purchased or reordered. Very surprised this Shure mic had an issue.
Marschall Van Doren –
I play in a duo with my girlfriend. I play keys and we both sing. Up until I bought this mic, her vocals were overpowering mine, and her harmony was forcing me to push to hard on my melody’s, to keep the balance. This mic is clean and cuts through the mix. I am now happy with our vocal blend.

I was currently using an Audix OM-5 which is a great all round microphone but wanted to gain some clarity back in vocal presence. The SM86-LC gave me exactly what I wanted in the crispness of the vocals in ever present S, T and P projections. I also wanted the tighter pattern that I had become used to in the OM series. The flat head allows me to get up to it and use my mustache as a good sensor not getting me teeth to close with a rounded head for lead vocals – yet, the sensitivity is good enough for backing vocals by being 1″ off of the mic it’s that sensitive. Between those two distances the mic allows you a lot of dynamic range control in addition to dynamic technique use. Everyone that has heard us before comments on the new clarity of vocals. As long as you have a board to provide the voltage, this baby rocks with extreme clean clarity that doesn’t over exert a frequency, like the ultra warm Audix OM series does with lows.

Best mic to used for studio work
