For those interested this requires drilling in order to mount properly and securely. Makes sense but I didn’t really think about this before purchasing.
The bigger problem is the swing gate portion is very narrow. I basically have to walk sideways through it. In my use case where I’ve installed it at the top of stairs you need to step over the bottom rail and then straight to the first step of the stairs if that makes sense. This means you’re taking a longer stride than normal which can be a problem for short people. This in addition to the narrow gate opening and potentially swinging baby legs which can catch in my opinion is a trip/fall hazard which is not what you want at the top of a set of stairs. I may look at purchasing a different gate to replace this one. The next one must have an extra wide opening – ideally one that swings open the entire width of the stairs.

Easy to install, clear directions, all parts included. It’s very sturdy and is working great.

Worked very well for us. When I opened the carton it seemed like the pieces would not possibly align, but once you fit it against the wall, the tension holds everything in place. I did not need to drill holes or fit anything in the wall. My twins bang and shake the heck out of it, and it rattles, but nothing happens. Perfect!

I was kinda skeptical regarding overall quality of this item due to the reviews, but I gotta tell ya… this thing is solid. It works beautifully in my kitchen and took minimal effort to put together. Would definitely buy this again if I need another gate.

I have several of these gates in strategic locations around the house for my dogs. It is super easy to install. They are very durable and can withstand knocks from the dogs. It locks easily and can be operated with a single hand. I do have two gates by two sets of stairs and they work really well. They are easy to clean and look good.

Ended up buying 2 gates to get all the pieces needed to fit 1 entrance. But also used the second gate in another area.
Initially the gate was wobbly because using the 1 small section left too much space and the large section was too big . So I bought a second gate and used 2 small sections. It fit the area perfectly and I was able to use the second gate in the hallway with one large section. It worked great for me and I was able to create a secluded area for my dogs to roam.
However, the issue with the gate being wobbly isn’t due to a design flaw, it’s how much space you have between the wall and the adjustable screws. The screw needs to be far enough into the gate that it doesn’t allow for movement AND the gate sections need to be long enough and fit together well with the screws not fully exposed. Therefore this gate might not fit every doorway properly with the sections provided.
I would suggest that individual sections of this gate be sold separately.
You can also try adjusting all screws to ensure they are evenly exposed on both sides top and bottom. That may also help.

Our last gate to secure the pantry area from the dogs was a pain the butt. We literally had to climb over which sucked. So I found this one…tall enough, nice looking and EASY EASY EASY to use! So nice not trying to trip each time we get in or out of the area. It installed easily (directions are a bit off but kinda normal these days) and it fit our large hall area just fine. Works like a charm. I had it installed in less than 15 minutes. Looks like it will be a winner.

Ganz toll!

Took a bit of time to set up this gate. As other folks said, the opening is narrow. Plus, the space between bars on the door partion is a little wider so our chihuahua/terrier puppy got through the closed door the second we got it up. We’ll have to buy some plastic mesh for that part until she gets bigger, so you should keep that in mind. Opening/closing is a little difficult, as you need to pull the lever back. I find I need 2 hands bt doing that and lifting up the door so it could open. Pressure mount is quite good, feels snug enough for our purpose with our puppy. Overall, I think it’s decent. Maybe not the most substantial gate, but not the worst.

This rating is based on a comparison with the Munchkin Easy Close gate which as of now is the 5 star standard in my opinion. The Regalo easy open gate has features that make it very easy and quick to install but the Munchkin gate is much more convenient in its daily use.
Finish: (Munchkin) Both gates are made of steel. The finish on the Regalo seems pretty easy to scratch. The latch actually has started wearing away the finish where they meet and I haven’t had the gate up long. The finish on the Munchkin isn’t indestructible but it is a little bit thicker.
Extensions: (Regalo) Both gates have adjustable widths with various extensions available. Neither company uses a system in which the extensions interlock to hold together. One slides into the other and they’re held together when the gate is squeezed between the wall. This isn’t an issue with use. It’s just a small inconvenience when installing and parts keep falling out of place. Munchkin’s extensions connect via plastic brackets whereas Regalo’s connect by sliding metal poles into each other. This is better when tightening the gate as you can see some strain on the plastic with the munchkin. Regalo could learn from Munchkin’s advertising as the user manual for Munchkin has their various extensions listed in their book making the parts easier to look up.
Wall Connection: (Regalo for ease/Munckin for safety) Both gates have 4 feet that extend out to secure the gate between the wall. Each has cups that can be attached to the wall via screws then the feet sit in them without moving. This is impractical because that’s 4 holes most people aren’t going to want to put in their wall. The rubber wall protectors available from other companies work great to hold these gates in place. However, Regalo does already have rubber coating their feet while Munchkin doesn’t. I still wanted the extra contact surface area between the feet and wall so I used wall protectors with the Regalo anyway. Each company uses different methods to tighten the gate into place. Regalo doesn’t need tools and Munchkin needs includes wrenches. My worry with the Regalo is that the easy tighten nature of the nuts will also make them easy to loosen by curious hands over time. It is insanely easy to install when compared to the Munchkin gate though.
Lock: (Munchkin)The opening/latch mechanism on the Regalo is a plastic handle that you move but the actual lock is a metal bar. The locking mechanism on the munchkin is all plastic but is much sturdier than their older designs. To open the regalo you pull back on the latch with your thumb and lift the door before swinging open. The munchkin you can just squeeze the handle (there’s a top and bottom button on the handle that need squeezed simultaneously) and open the gate without lifting. The munchkin gate has a locking feature on the bottom that, when closed, allows the gate to lock shut without any extra effort.
Other features: (Munchkin) One of the biggest reasons I like the Munchkin gate over the Regalo is that the size of the opening is very small with the Regalo. I don’t have the measurements but it’s noticeable. When used on stairs, the smaller opening may make normal traffic or carrying things up and down a nuisance. The munchkin gate also has a plastic device atthe bottom of the gate that allows you to control which way the gate swings if you care to. With the lift to open design of the Regalo this isn’t a feasible feature.
Price point: The Regalo was about $38 when we bought it and the Munchkin about $45.
