I decided to get the Kindle edition because it was quick and easy to access. Little did I know that it would not have the same information as the paperback book does. I searched the entire kindle version for two of my classes assigned reading and I couldn’t find that information any where. I would definitely recommend getting the paperback instead! Do not make the same mistake and have to pay for both the kindle version and the paperback.

I am a new teacher and I am currently teaching overseas where most of the learners are English Language Learners (ELLs). The company/school that I work for has a requirement (though not enforced) that all teachers be trained in SIOP, so I took a SIOP course through Pearson’s Virtual Institute. The SIOP model has helped my teaching tremendously, so when I discovered this book, I knew I had to get it.
If you haven’t received SIOP training, I suggest you receive it before purchasing this book. If you have received the training, however, then you will fully appreciate what this book has to offer. Each feature is discussed and then several activities and ideas are shared that complement the feature. There are also cross references if you want to use one of the activities for another feature. They list specific objectives for each feature as well. Included in the text are example lesson plans so that you can see how SIOP lesson plans are made and how each feature can be found in every lesson plan.
On a side note, Ms. Washam (one of the authors) was my instructor for my SIOP certification and she is amazing. That was another reason I bought the book.

While it is still labor intensive, this book has ideas that act as a spring board for creating modifications in the ELL/ESL classroom. I highly recommend being familiar with the SIOP method before reading this book, HOWEVER, even without SIOP training, there are ideas you can use in this book. Do NOT expect to have pre-planned lessons. This book offers ideas that are adaptable to many classrooms, disciplines, and ages.
