Itโs hard to make completely new content in the Fae world , so many books on the market .. but honestly, it was original, all the plot twists didnโt take me by surprise , but it didnโt bother me , I enjoyed them the same , but other plot-twists did surprise me .. the scenes actions was good , well written..
The romance is a slow-burn, the tension is delicious, no sex but the little glimpses were hot and detailed..
Good world building without overwhelming us .. I easily pictured it.. and when I became nostalgic about the keep and shadowhold I knew I fell in love with this story ..

Kane .. I loved everything about him , but my favorite thing ? Kate wrote a MMC who shows feelings and emotions .. and THAT itโs wonderful, he is jealous, possessive, broody, mysterious and completely in love.. Iโm obsessed with him .. my heart broke for him at the end ..
I loved Arwen too, she isnโt normally the type of FMC I love , she is naive , scared of the world .. but I donโt know ; she is brave , feisty, her inner monologues and snarky comments were priceless.. she made me laugh a lot .. I was a little disappointed at the end to be honest with her behavior .. BUT I understand Kateโs choice regarding the romance.. itโs just the first book but I sincerely hope it wonโt become a ยซย push and pullย ยป romance too long .. finger crossed ๐ค๐ป
Even the secondary characters are endearing, not just one dimensional, they add flavor.
The writing is good , funny , easy, full of hearts and emotions ! itโs a page turner and I swallowed it in one day..
Itโs one of the books I would easily read again .. Iโm happy to have discovered it, itโs an author I will follow closely.

What a fantastic book this is! I canโt believe I had not read it before now, and I wish I had read it sooner! A Dawn of Onyx is a really great book, full of magic, sacrifice, enemies to lovers tension, friendship, personal growth, and so much more.
I loved our main character, Arwen. She is caring and strong, stubborn, eager to learn things, and willing to do anything to save her family. Arwen can heal others, and devotes her life to saving others. She doesnโt feel as loved and strong as her brother, but as we go on in the book, we get to witness her growing into herself. One of my favorite things is watching our FMC grow into herself and her confidence, and become the woman she is meant to be.
Our MMC, Kane, is soooo perfect as the MMC. A shadow daddy wicked king, he is as dark and devious as everyone saysโฆ or is he? I loved getting to know him more throughout the book and from Arwenโs perspective.
Their budding attraction? AMAZING. Kate Golden knows how to write a slow burn with a ton of banter. It was perfection, and I was eagerly devouring their relationship as it began to grow. I also loved all our other characters as they came into play!
The world building in A Dawn of Onyx was 10/10. I felt as though I was plopped right into the world and story. The details describing everything, the background info, it was all perfect! There was so much character development, a lot of plot, and the story was truly so good.
This is your perfect slow burn enemies to lovers romantasy! It doesnโt have a lot of spice, but the spice that is there is great. I enjoy a good spicy book, but I felt like this was really well done and did not need more than it had!
Overall, A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden was fantastic and enjoyable, and I am so excited to read book 2! I recommenced it to anyone who likes a slow burn enemies to lovers romantasy.

I read about 5 books a month and romantasy is my favorite genre. This has been one of my favorite books Iโve read in a long while. I really thought it was gonna be cheesy but it was so good. I loved both the MMC and the FMC. There is just the right amount of tension and the spicy senes are some of the best Iโve read. This has action, fae, โwho did this to you?โ troupe, spicy romance, enemies to lovers, and a coming to power protagonist. Excited for #3 to come out!

A Dawn of Onyx has everything a romantasy reader could want in a story โ enemies to lovers, morally grey MMC, who did this to you, unusual abilities, great banter, and oh so many secrets. Additionally, the world building was well done. There are so many places referenced that I hope we get to visit in future books. Both Arwen and Kaneโs characters were richly developed. Also, the banter between them was so delightful and has me giggling just thinking about some of the scenes. ย The plot was interesting and engaging despite being predictable. The ending, though, had me shocked and desperate for book two. Ruby Cherise did a great job with the audiobook. She brought so much sass and emotion to Arwenโs character. If youโre a romantasy fan, I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Overall the story is good until it gets to the end. The characters work, the plot works, and then the ending hits like a deadline was looming. It reads like the author word vomited and the editor didn’t proofread. “Lighte” appeared to be somewhat well explained until the for arrived and were so powerful. The shapeshifting, the misreading etc made them like gods. It was at this point that suspension of disbelief was no longer possible and the story died for me. On my Kindle this was listed as book 1 of 1 and so I thought I’d finally gotten my hands on a stand alone book instead of a never ending series. Surprise. By the time the rest of this comes out (book 2 in 2024) I will have forgotten all about It. It’s not even 400 pages long, the ending sucks and it’s $10 on Kindle. Waste of time and money.

Wow, I was excited to read this book and hoped it would be as good as the blurb promised, but I was not expecting it to be this good and addictive! I got sucked in from the very first chapter and just couldnโt stop! I had a bad syndrome of โjust one more chapter with this oneโ!
Arwen spent her whole life in her small village, caring for her sick mother, and secretly using her healing power to help her people. The past year has been rough for her mother, her younger sister, and her because her brother was forced to enroll in the army to fight against their enemy from the kingdom of Onyx. When Arwenโs brother unexpectedly comes back with stolen Onyx gold, they only have a few minutes to pack up and leave for another kingdom where there is no war, before Onyxโs soldiers catch up to them. Everything does not go according to plan, and Arwen finds herself a prisoner of the Onyx army. She ends up first in prison and then forced to work as a healer for Onyx, and that is how she meets the famous and feared king Kane Ravenwood.
Arwen is such a lovable and relatable main character! She is strong, resilient, and driven, but also flawed and not amazingly good at everything she does as soon as she tries it. She is kind and intelligent, while also being snarky and fierce. Overall, she felt very human and real. She is thrown into a new country with her enemies surrounding her, and she is afraid, but thatโs where her strength shows and her bravery shines. There was a time or two when she made choices or had reactions that annoyed me a little, mostly when she acted like a jealous teenager wanting to mark her territory with Kane, even though they were not involved romantically or physically together, but as I said, she is not perfect and I like that about her. Besides those few rare instances, she was amazing and I canโt wait to see more of her and see how she continues to grow and gain confidence in the next book.

I enjoyed the characters and all the adventure throughout the book. It did feel disconnected in some waysโฆa little of letโs just through this in and try to pull it together in the end. I do have a big pet peeve of a main character who lies to the other main character, but then is so offended when they find out they are being lied to as well. Like GIRL!!! You been lying too!!! The old my lies arenโt as bad as your lies story is getting old to me so thatโs probably why this is a 4 star for me.

I genuinely loved this book. It had been sat on my TBR for too long and I regret putting it off so much now. Although at least itโs less time to wait for the sequel.
It was a stunning fantasy romance with some epic twists that had me reeling. When Arwen offers to pay for her brothers crimes against the King of Onyx to keep her family safe, she gets drawn in to a and becomes part of a world of more than she though possible with intrigue, adventure, betrayal, prophecies and new found family.
The characters were so dynamic and Arwen was surprisingly relatable (for someone riddle with power/magic)and has some excellent growth. Kane is brooding and mysterious and everything we love in a morally grey MMC. And itโs not just the main characters. Mari for example was so beautifully chaotic and entertaining, love love loved her.
The plot was gripping and the enemies to lovers element was really well played out. The reluctance, the tension, the angst, the pining, the slow burn. It was all just beautifully done.
Goldenโs writing style is easy to follow and well descriptive without being overly so (which is a common problem in fantasy genres). The pace of this story was perfect. It was heartbreaking and emotional in all the right ways and it hey epic battle at the end of the book made it impossible to tear my eyes away!
Romantasy lovers this one is for you.
I cannot wait to read the next instalment of the sacred stones trilogy.

I went into this book with low expectations. It surprised me. The book is well written, has an exciting plot and characters that are interesting. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of them. I don’t know if this is a young adult book or an adult fantasy but I think it can be enjoyed by all ages. I noticed that the intimacy between the main characters always ends before completion. Is that due to the plot or is this book written for a younger audience? I guess it doesn’t matter. Either way I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Will Arwen get over herself? Will Kane do the right thing? Will the author ever let them go all the way?
