Welp I just had my heart stomped on again… I knew I shouldn’t have read this book but at the same time I love this series, so I knew I had to eventually. This love story felt a bit too quick in the beginning but ended up being such a cute love story. But of course in the end, my heart got broken even more, now that I got to read more about Adena. And now that I started to root for Mak and her love story even if I knew how things would end. I’m praying that we get to see more from Mak in the next book(s) because now I’d really love to hear more from him after this tragedy. I’m so mad at Lauren for making me experience this soul crushing ending again, but I also love how connected I’ve become to these characters and this story. Now time to go cry some more.. lol

“𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘺, 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.”

Oh my this book!! I loved Adena in Powerless – she is pure sunshine and happiness – an innocence that everyone should have on their lives. This book just brings it so much more forward; her outlook, her positivity, and her almost child like nature – Adena is the internal optimist.

And then you meet Makoto! He is the grumpy to her sunshine, the smiles only for her, the perfect cliche of a couple.

“𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘹𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐’𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴.
𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘦, 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘢𝘮, 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵, 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳.
𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦’𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘮𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.”

You know going into this book what the ending will be; but you want to know the why – and you still don’t get to know a good enough reason for it happening (although I don’t think any reason would have been good enough for that ending)! But the budding love story that got cut short too quickly, Makoto’s history and everything he goes through, reliving what Pae went through – UGH! It’s just so unfair!

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴,” 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘭𝘺, 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳. “𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺—𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘸— 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮, 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦.”

I am excited for Mak in the next book and how he will help Pae; I mean we don’t know that… but we know he will help her right??

“𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉 𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒔.”

I love this series and I was excited to get this novella. However the only thing I didn’t like was that is it way smaller than the rest of the series in height which is one of my bugaboos when it comes to my books. That aside I loved this book. I even cried and was mad at the end even though I knew what was coming since I had already read the first book in the series. This novella is told in Adena’s point of view. My only recommendation is that you tandem read the First book and this novella if you want a better experience. Very well written and amazing story line from both perspectives in the first book and in this novella. Considering the author said she wrote the first book at 19 and just went with it, it is an absolute must read!!! Can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out soon. I Have also already read the 2nd book. I loved seeing Adena’s point of view and a little bit of her back story as well.

After reading powerless, you know what’s coming. But it doesn’t prepare you for the turmoil of which comes with it. The love is true and genuine, it is beautifully written and tragically painful. Story is written perfectly and allows the reader to truly love the characters, but don’t dismiss the revenge that drives every decision from here on out.

    POWERFUL – LAUREN ROBERTS

If you are not sure about this book/series, what are you doing? I can tell you now this series is EVERYTHING. It warms your heart in ways I cannot fathom but also crumbles and smashes your itsy bitsy heart to pieces. But books am I right? Hahaha ✨fictional men✨

    Enjoy 😘

I can’t deal with this book. Lauren Robert’s you have officially broke my heart all over again. I just cannot express how much I love this series. As a reader it’s nice to have characters that you can actually like, with Lauren Robert’s though, you can connect and feel with the characters. You fall in love with them. You route for them. I’ve never had a book/series like this. And I am so stumped that it’s not July yet because I want Reckless, like yesterday!!

This is a Powerless Story through the eyes of our beloved Adena. She’s a seamstress who has stitched her and Paeydn a life in the slums. Adena stitches and creates clothing whilst Paedyn steals those ridiculously good sticky buns.

Now if you’ve read Powerless like myself you already know what happens – I’m not gonna spoil it for you though if you haven’t.

This novella is incredible and the character development for Makoto is sublime – I’d love to know if he’s a main character for Reckless, or will we get a novella from his POV? Lauren let us know please 😉

This book literally tugs on my heart strings and I have to admit I did shed some tears. There’s literally not enough words for me to write about this book; so instead I’ll share with you some of my favourite quotes 🤍✨

    Powerful quotes

    ⚔️“See you in the sky”

⚔️“You make even the stars envious, because one day – far from now – you will be up there beside them, outshining every single one”

⚔️“You are the sweetest thing I have never tasted. And I doubt I’ve craved anything more.”

⚔️“I think you’re my little piece of perfection.”

⚔️“I’ve spent my whole life wishing to be wanted. And here he is, begging me to let him.”

Fictional men, ummm helloooo? Makoto and Kai are putting out competition for all you lovely lot so step up your game 😉

Powerless was a good story and I know it was left on a cliffhanger ish, on purpose but there was so much tension throughout the book that I was kinda sad we didn’t get our happy ending. However now that I’ve read Powerful, I completely understand why that book was left the way it was, and why the things happened the way they did.

Also I’m pretty sure we got an extra chapter of Reckless in this novella am I right?? Because HELLO!!

Honestly I cannot put together the words or even string a whole sentence together with the amount of love I have for this book. It has truly cured my reading slump because I was so sick of buying books and then DNFing them.

Following Adena’s character is amazing, her POV is so bubbly and fun and very glass half full, looking on life. Like her situation is in lamens terms, she’s homeless. But she uses this to sew pretty clothes, indulge on sticky buns with her best friend and spends countless nights counting stars. Her character is simply lovely, she’s such a bundle of joy and I love how Robert’s has been able to perceive that character and really put it across to the reader. It’s not too descriptive but it’s not boring either, it’s just enough so you can really feel the connection with the character.

    Overall – 5 STARS!
If I could give this book more stars I would 🤍

Lauren I love you, your writing is effervescent ✨⚔️🤍

Powerful- This book might just be the death of me. Literally took my heart and started stomping on it. I would say you have to read the first book (Powerless) to really understand the plot though. It has the best romance without the major spice. And the ending had my jaw dropping to the floor. I definitely recommend reading this book before skipping to the 2nd book in the series.

    Powerful by Lauren Roberts
My Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (not my favorite, but it’s good!)

SPOILER FREE REVIEW: what an absolute pleasant surprise! I actually REALLY liked this read. I had no idea that I needed Adena’s story and now I’m sitting here wondering how I ever read Powerless without it. Seriously considering restarting the series with a tandem read! Added waaayyy more to Adena’s character that I only now realized we were so sorely lacking. If you’ve read Powerless then the ending to Powerful is pretty much spoiled for you…don’t let that stop you! This book introduces a new character that I could easily see becoming more relevant in book three. Give it a shot!

I’ve seen the Powerless Triology suggested alongside a lot of other books with smut. I believe Lauren has stated that she will be keeping this trilogy YA. But seriously don’t let that stop you. This was such a fun, light read!

COVER/JACKET – I’m a big stickler for keeping design elements consistent over the length of a series…uuggghh. Where to start. Okay, okay. I realize this is a novella so I’ll cut it SOME slack. But…man. I just wish they would have chosen some different elements for this book. To start, I think the cover is beautiful and so perfectly illustrated Aden’a story. It doesn’t quite match the design elements of Powerless/Reckless. But again…novella. So I’ll let it slide. Under the jacket the front hardcover is blank. Why?? I wish they would have continued the simplistic design of the other two and added the needle/thread in silver on the front. I feel like that was a sore miss. On the spine, text treatment seems similar to the other two (won’t get into the Powerless/Reckless differences here…), but why the gap between author and title??? And the book size. AGAIN. Novella. But… 🙁 I could have easily seen this differentiated enough just by being white and the same size as the others. All of this is nitpicky, but this might be the final straw in teaching myself how to book bind just so I can have a copy of the same size as the others for my shelf! 😂

    PRODUCT/SHIPPING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The fact that I got so emotionally attached to Adena and Mak after just over 200 pages just testifies to Lauren Roberts as an author. Even though I knew the ending, it was still gut-retching to go through.
Powerful by Lauren Roberts is told through the perspective of Adena and Mak. Adena is a trusting, bubbly, sun-shine character that is so easy to fall in love with. She is a seamstress living in a bad part of the kingdom. When Pae gets shipped off to the trails, Adena has no idea what she is going to do to live, since she can’t manage to steal. During one of her attempts, she runs into Mak who saves her by getting her hidden.
Mak is our typical grumpy character. As soon as he sees Adena, he forms a plan to save someone he loves from the Purging Trials. When he saves Adena from the guards, he takes his chance to make this deal with her. This deal creates forced proximity and a relationship neither is ready for.
Both characters’ perspectives are so fun to read from. Adena is so laid back and Mak is just so grumpy it’s hilarious. Would highly recommend.

Pleasantly surprised, entertained and heartbroken. What a whirlwind this little 1.5 was. It was a redemption arc for Lauren Roberts, for me. While Powerless started out strong and whimpered out for me, Powerful held my attention and then broke my heart. I didn’t expect much from this series, and now I’m back on board. Ready to give Reckless a solid try and will keep my pretty hardcover editions on my shelf. 🙂 If you were disappointed with the hyped up Powerless – don’t fret – Adena and Mak are here to save us.
