I purchased a built 4l60 about six months ago and have been experimenting ever since attempting to smooth 1st to 2nd gear. With the combination of high horsepower, a shift kit and a corvette solenoid the shift from 1st to 2nd can sometimes rattle your teeth, especially cold. I tried what I though was the best, Royal Purple with little to no change. I tried some Lucas, both of their trans additives to no avail so I was kind of just living with it even though my wife hated riding with me.
I was surfing the internet one day, reading blogs and came across a guy talking about how good the Acdelco Dex1 gen2 full synthetic is, and all the hoops they have to go through to get all those certifications. And how after all these years Acdelco is still putting out premium quality products. This got me all exited, I wasnโt married to Royal Purple, why not give the stuff thatโs made for my truck a shot? I had never even considered Acdelco. Ok, so I ordered some full synthetic Dex vi at about half of what I pay for the Royal Purple. Iโve got a lower pan, takes 2 extra qts, so I pump out 7 quarts at a time, then refill with fresh fluid. It gets about half every time.so you have to do it a few times to get pure fluid. After the 3rd set of flushes I took a test drive, almost expecting more of the same as before, boy was I ever very pleasantly surprised. Super smooth, 1st to 2nd had been softened considerably. I couldnโt be happier. Just way more driveable.
