I purchased this to use at work with my Chromebook, as the wifi is unreliable. It’s well-made, connects snugly at both ends, and works perfectly. I’m glad I decided not to buy a more expensive one, and I’d definitely order this again.

helped me work at home instead of commuting to office, so definitely worth it!

Nowadays, laptops no longer come with an ethernet port, requiring users to either rely on potentially slow WiFi or opt for an adapter that converts ethernet (RJ45) to USB. This is particularly useful for those with gigabit internet, as the adapter facilitates up to 1000 Mbps speeds.

Constructed of aluminium with a nice matte-ish texture, it feels premium and nice to the touch. The adapter also has a nice-feeling and sleek-looking rubber cable linking the Ethernet port to the USB connectors. This material provides increased durability whilst keeping the cable flexible and the moulded strain reliefs on the connectors mean that both ends can handle bending and a lot of stress without breaking. This means it is designed to last. The USB side features a Type C connector. On the ethernet side, two LEDs indicate network activity and speed. However, I wish that the USB side has an attached USB-C to USB-A adaptor, enhancing versatility and compatibility with older devices sporting USB-A ports.

The Left Amber LED serves as a speed indicator:
Green on – Operating as a Gigabit connection (1000 Mbps).
Amber on – Operating as a 10-Mbps or 100-Mbps connection.

The Right Green LED functions as the Link/Activity indicator:
Blinking – There is activity on this port.
Off – No link is established.

Ease of use characterizes this adapter, as it is compatible with most modern devices, eliminating the need for drivers or external software. It seamlessly operates with Windows 11/10/8/8.1/7, MacOS, iOS, and Android systems, offering a hassle-free plug-and-play experience with automatic detection and configuration for a fast and stable network connection.

While purchased not for a laptop or PC but for my phone to test internet installations, the adapter with its small design and portability makes it perfectly suited for this use case. It is also perfect for any and all other situations where an ethernet adapter would be needed/used.

With a price tag of £15.99 at the time of review, this adapter may seem pricey compared to other offerings on the market, but this comes from a well-established brand where you know it will offer reliability which is something one would want when choosing to hard wire their device in order to achieve the best speeds and latency.

I seem to have purchased this item accidentally. I had looked at it several weeks earlier, but when I ordered something else it appeared in my cart. Strange, but it happened to put my order over the minimum for free shipping so I left it there.

That aside, I plugged it into the USB-C port on my HP notebook (Windows 11), which does not have a port for a hard-wired network. I was expecting to have to go hunting for drivers, which is often the case with new hardware. The Acer dongle immediately turned off the Wi-Fi and connected to the wired network. No downloads, configuration or other fiddling needed, it just works.

Looking at Device Manager, the adapter appears as a Realtek GBE Family controller, a common chipset that works well with Windows native drivers. It’s inexpensive, does what I need it to do and if it keeps working, we’re good.

I have used this USB-C to ethernet adapter with my iPhone 15 Pro Max and it works great.

I play a lot of games on my iPhone and when I connect to my home internet via WiFi the ping/latency is a bit on the high side. This ends up causing lag, which is more noticeable with FPS games.

With this USB-C to ethernet adapter I can connect my iPhone direct to my internet router via an ethernet cable (CAT5) and I get the lowest possible ping on my setup. This gives me a better experience when playing FPS games, where every millisecond counts, as far as response time is concerned.

This will also work for a solid and fast internet connection for general browsing as well. Which is super useful is you have lan sockets in a room that don’t have particularly good WiFi reception.

I was having a problem with my Chromebook not connecting to my wi-fi, and I needed to test to see if it would connect on an ethernet connection.

But I didn’t have an ethernet adaptor, so I obtained this one from Amazon. You can see the before photo of my Chromebook unsuccessfully trying to connect to the internet.

Acer is always a good brand, and when I plugged it into the USB C port on my Chromebook, and into the ethernet port on my Google wi-fi mesh system as you can see in the photo, it confirmed that my Chromebook would still connect to the internet via ethernet (as you can see in the subsequent photo), so I knew there was a problem either with the wi-fi card or with the motherboard. It also confirmed that this adaptor works perfectly.

I took my Chromebook to a computer diagnostic and repair store, and the problem is with the motherboard, and the cost of repair is $700 CDN. I am extremely disappointed, as I love the Chromebook I had; my husband got it for me for Christmas 6 years ago, and even though I told him a mid-range one would be fine, he bought me a top of the line one.

Now I’m shopping for a new one, and I don’t have the budget to replace the high-end one I got. I’m actually down to two Acer choices.

This adaptor works perfectly and I recommend this product.

This works with my Acer Chromebook. Model CB514-2H. It works on the right side USB.

I didn’t realize I could use the chromebook with Ethernet. But I use it now when I really need a reliable connection. Sometimes wi-fi skips a beat which can freeze you on a Zoom meeting. So this is a great find. Also not pricey.

I occasionally want to plug my laptop into wired Internet instead of wifi. I got this because I don’t have a port on my computer. It is plug and play. I got excellent performance and no issues.
