I’m not a gamer by any means. About every two years or so I blow the dust off the ol’ Xbox and blow a week or two on some sweet game, and then I get caught up with a new Netflix series or something else. This was the reason for my last Xbox fix and I have no regrets. Considering the game is a couple years old now, the graphics are awesome and it’s just a lot of fun all around. I remember playing Outlaws on my PC about 15 years ago and have always wanted another good Western game like that. This one fits the bill! Yes the game seems a little short, but if you buy a $3.00 used copy, who cares? If you enjoy first person shooters and westerns, the game is well worth it.

Western games, it’s one of the genres we rarely see in video games, and it’s one of my personal favorites. Anyway, when I finally got my 360, about 5 months after it came out, GUN was #1 on my rental list, because I wasn’t sure about it. The game was practically no where to be found in Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. So I ended up buying it. GUN was a great game…before I beat it the following day.
Basically, you play as Montana hunter Colton White who he and his father Ned hut game, until one day the steam boat they were traveling was ambushed by renegades. Before Ned was killed in the attack, he told Colt that “He ain’t his father”, and then threw him off the boat. Now Colt is on a quest for vengeful justice. That’s basically the whole story in a nut shell. And now Pros & Cons
-THE GOOD-Free roaming old west: good graphics: horse back riding and combat: loads of different, interesting side missions: realistic western age weapons: perfect voice overs: “QUICKDRAW”-a feature that allows you to slow down time and accurately take out multiple enemies at once: virtually no learning curve: save anywhere
-THE BAD-Enemies can almost kill you in a couple shots: Just how unoriginal and stereotypical is this story?: The graphics look good, only from a last-gen perspective: A bit short: overly gory and messy for a game of this genre: boss battles are basically the same, shoot them full of lead until they die
-THE UGLY-Worst free-roaming game ever, the area is like a small, free roaming path: What? No classic western Standoffs like in Red Dead Revolver? Music is cheap: A casual gamer can beat this game 100% in about 3 to 4 days: Story is seriously derived: Why is that my pistols have infinite ammo, but my rifle, sharp shooter, shotgun, and bow do not? Absolutely, positively no multiplayer what so ever
I really wish I rented this game when I had the chance. Now I’m just playing it to unlock the achievements, then after that, trade it or sell it. If you have a PS2/PS3, Xbox, or a 360 that can play Xbox games, try out Red Dead Revolver. I found that game a lot more satisfying than GUN (plus it has mulitplayer, Standoffs, and a cooler name for the slow-motion feature, Dead Eye). GUN is a definite rent.
NOTE TO PARENTS: This game is seriously not for children, it’s more bloody than a SAW film, there are many sexual references, some gambling is involved, and the characters curse and swear constantly.

The first time I played GUN, it was on the PS2, and was my first open-world game. I had since played many others including Red Dead Redemption, which made this game look archaic, but it was one of the best games of its time. Good story line, and one of few good options for western games available today. If you like the west, shooting games or classic story lines and side missions in an open world capacity, you should enjoy this game. Playing it again years later was reminiscent and fun. I am confident most gamers (who appreciate older games) would have fun with GUN. I recommend it.

I tried playing this game. But if you can’t win the horse race in the beginning your stuck and will never be able to play the game or find out what the story is. This is really stupid. All their trying to do is show you how to ride your horse. But then they say you have to win an impossible horse race in order to play any further into the game. This really kills the game and makes it absolutely useless. I’m selling it back to Gamestop and and spending my time playing games that were meant to be fun. I don’t know that was going on in the minds of this game developer.

I am into action shooter games and Westerns, and this is a good mix of both of those things. It has some of the best voice acting I have ever heard in a game. To me the game play is solid as a rock. I have never played a game where the horse was an intrigal part of the game, the sheer amount of ways you can maneuver the horse. You can use it in combat, and it beats walking from town to town. I was impressed with the different types of weapons I could use, and the fact that they had some historic accuracy to them. Aside from the main storyline, you can participate in lots of activities, like playing poker, being a bounty hunter, or even riding for the pony express. It keeps the game interesting and more fun. I am glad I purchased it and it is still high on my list of favorite games.
