Alesis Digital Piano Bundle – 88 Semi Weighted Keys

The Good: Full size keys, easy to move/set up, basic push button controls on top, so no massive menus to scroll through. Piano sound is acceptable at this price point.
The Bad: Keys are no better than a $100 keyboard. Additional parameters are changed via specific keys but you have to have the “map” in front of you to know which keys to press to make changes.
The Ugly: It’s simply not loud enough. If you wanted to play with an acoustic guitar you would have trouble hearing the piano.
Overall: This is probably good for a new player and is fair value for the price. However, I bought this for a 6th year piano student as a practice piano but should have moved up a couple hundred dollars.

Four stars for value but not for anyone above beginner.

Comprei esse modelo especificamente pelo número de teclas pois precisava de 7 oitavas e não 5 que é os teclados… As teclas são bonitas mas eu não senti nada do peso que simula um piano acústico, mesmo elas sendo mais grossas eu me senti tocando em um teclado comum com teclas com um acabamento mais bonito. O Reverb é bem fraquinho, eu já esperava que fosse assim mas também esperava ser um pouco surpreendido com algo que fosse exceder alguma espectativa. Vi no anúncio só agora que vem suporte para partitura, mas no meu não veio, como não uso não me preocupei tanto, mas ainda assim é algo que deveria vir…

Arrived late and the packaging was damaged… still worth every penny. I tried the William legato and I wasn’t very impressed. Although I have to admit I’m only a beginner/mediocre song writer. This was perfect for taking to open mics.

The features seem thin but are actually very abundant. Like I said I’m a beginner. Not a very talented one at that. There’s an advance mode that imitates the sustain pedal. This was a great unexpected feature. Less equipment I have to bring to open mics the less things ill lose O . O

The demo sound wasn’t very impressive. My super basic casio ltk? Sounded better imho. It actually feels very similar. But somehow my lack of talent and skill shows less with the recital. After playing around with the reverb, chorus, volume etc. In Advanced features for about ten minutes.. I went from meh to LOVE <3 although it only comes with a few sounds, you can really adjust it to your liking. The sound is very full and the reverb is great.

My favorite thing about this keyboard is kind of shallow. I liked how it looked compared to williams legato and alesis coda. Alesis coda looked much too bulky for me… lol that’s a terrible reason I know but this keyboard is so sleek and beautiful lol. If i was a talented professional pianist or a very serious pianist. I’d definetly go with the Alesis Coda hammer action/fully weighted version. It seems like all you really need in a keyboard. But for my needs this one is perfect and easy to play.

I do wish that the semi weighted keys could be more weighted.. but that’s just me being Nick picky. My casio ltk? Is less weighted than the recital. So this is a great enough upgrade for me atm. The recital is also more weighted than the legato which was one of my reasons for choosing it over the legato. For the price, I feel with Alesis you get more bang for your buck. Which for someone on a budget like me is super important.

On my casio ltk? My favorite sound was the muted, mellow piano sound. I wish the Alesis recital had an option to sound more muted but it’s full and realistic sound is a winner. It sounds much better than the Yamahas in a much higher price bracket. Ahh technology. It’s a great time to be alive lol

I purchased this keyboard for beginning piano students. That is important as I will be judging this keyboard based on it meeting the criteria for a beginning student.

I played through all the keys up and down and on all the select instrument options. I heard no rattling of the shell, very little clicking of the keys. It’s solid and seems well built.

The sound is not professional quality, nor even close, but it’s good enough that it doesn’t sound excessively fake. I did not like the other instruments (Electric Piano, Organ, Synth, and Bass). The organ sound especially doesn’t sound like an organ to me, and is completely ineffective in the lower register. Same with the synth and somewhat with the bass. These are small problems to me, as the piano registers clear throughout the range but does seem a little faint in the upper register. This Alesis keyboard is designed to be a low-end professional keyboard, hence it doesn’t have the myriad synthesized sound options that most keyboards have. However, at a professional level it falls very short. They should have just added more instruments anyway. My only regret is that my beginning students won’t be able to play around with the many synthesized instruments that other electronic keyboards have.

Others reviewers have had trouble with volume. I haven’t encountered that yet. Still testing.

The keys are springy, they do not feel like a piano at all, but they are much better feeling than most synthesizers. For a student practicing scales, arpeggios and other technical studies the instrument will serve much better than most keyboards. The fact that it is 88 keys is helpful, but not necessary for beginners. It’s a plus.

I have played some other inexpensive low quality keyboards, and so far this one is the best bang for the buck. I am happy with it, though I am thinking that it might be too expensive for a starting student. However, it meets all the criteria that I needed for my students, and so 5-stars.
