I opened the box and was greeted with a piece of paper letting me know that the product had been QA tested and that this would explain any pieces of shredded paper I might find in it. Well, I don’t know what they were QA testing, but it wasn’t the device’s ability to shred as when I turned it on and fed a single piece of paper into it, I got a a light saying it had over-heated. I withdrew the piece of paper, fed it again and got a light saying it was overloaded. I put it into reverse and got the same thing. I should say that it wasn’t partially shredding the paper, just showing me the light. I read the manual, read the troubleshooting guide, turned it off, left it, came back, got the same thing. I went on to Amazon to see what my options were and there’s a button for “support”, so I pressed it and got a call immediately from a call center agent who wanted the details of my account and order (and after a slight struggle to explain in English what the problem was) she said she was processing a replacement for me. Maybe it was naive, but I was expecting some sort of product-specific troubleshooting support – that is not what the “Amazon Tech Support” team do apparently, they just process returns. So, I’ve got a replacement on the way and maybe, if the thing works, I’ll have to amend this review to reflect that, but at this moment I’m disappointed with it and it’s “one star, avoid this product”.

Overall the machine works well. Unlike a lot of shredders the silver piece by the in feed is not a safety device. If you lift the top by the handle it will actually put stress o. This silver piece. By design when the handle is perpendicular to the top it is prying the silver piece off. This piece will eventually break.

I had my last shredder for about 5 years, give or take, until it started screaming and whining horribly and I knew it was time for a replacement/upgrade. I came across this and decided that even though this was a bit more bulky than my last, it would be worth it with the functionality. It is SOOO quiet and handles even more than the description says it does!! I have ran it for almost an hour straight clearing out some old paperwork, mail and receipts from my desk and office space and it never once overheated! I have shredded full envelopes of junk mail and even a few dud CDs. I bought and recommend the lubricating sheets to go with it too, just to keep up on the maintenance and preserve the life span of this machine. I shred quite a bit on a monthly basis from bill receipts/invoices to just run of the mill junk mail with my name and address on them. Great machine, Quiet and WELL worth the money!!

The last shredder I ordered, which was also an Amazon one, was approximately $45 and only shredded 8 pages (allegedly; it jammed after a few uses and didn’t seem to be able to manage the load). This shredder, however, is miles apart in quality. The first thing I noticed about this product was how quiet it is; it is much quieter than other shredders I have used, even when going though thicker loads. Second, this item can easily go through its intended load — 12 pages — without getting overheated. (In fact, it has an overheat light to let you know when you need to leave it to cool off.) Bonus features include a transparent panel on the side to help you see how full the shredder tray is and a handle for easy disassembly. The buttons are standard: auto, forward, reverse, and off. Forward and reverse will prove useful if there is a jam–other shredders I have used have reverse only, and this does not always work if you are trying to get a piece of jammed paper repositioned and fed through. All in all, I am very pleased with the quality of this product. If you are looking for a shredder that is higher quality than your standard 6-8 page cheapie, but not as expensive as those that shred higher numbers of pages, this is definitely the item for you.

So far so good, it’s made a couple of noises that I’m positive are not good but it’s still works. Has features I’ll never use but only on occasion. I will update as time goes by with any problems or in the same Instant good things as well. It’s definitely more quiet than my last one I had for fifteen years. That’s a good start. Four Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! Update (24 October 2019). I use it every day, still really quiet and problem free. Updated 7 January 2023, still in action and no issues to complain about. I don’t use it everyday but when I do it responds instantly.

The product arrived when promised and was very easy to setup.
I use the product in my home office for both business and personal shredding needs. The machine handles the 12 page max load nicely and reduces the time for larger shredding jobs. It has a special slot for shredding CDs and credit cards and does a good job on plastic items of this type. (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SHRED METAL CREDIT CARDS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE OWNER’S MANUAL.)
This machine has good features such as “reverse, over-heat protection, clear fill-capacity view widow etc. I also like the compact design and styling.

Shipping was great… This was purchased to replace a 6yr. old shredder, which unfortunately I dropped the top head part & broke beyond repair. The Amazon Basics 12 sheet cross-cut is smaller in size, but a hell of a lot quieter. It does shred 6-8 sheets fast & without clogging. Have used it a number of times running for 20-25 min. & no over heating as yet. Have not inserted more than 8 sheets at a time so cannot comment on the 12 sheet maximum. It also shreds staples without problem. Have not used the credit card or CD insert as of yet… The removable waste bin is an added plus. Very happy with shredder & purchase price… Definitely recommended…

I was already impressed by my previous amazon basics shredder which was working very good for a few years, only drawback is that it was very noisy and unfortunately got messed up when i placed too many sheets at once; but overall my experience was good so I decided to purchase their newer model as a replacement and what an improvement. it runs so smooth, quiet and effortless. I ordered this one as I needed something that would run for more than 2 minutes continuously. In fact, I needed to shred several boxes of papers so I was looking for at least 30 minutes. I compromised on this one, and I am so glad I did! I fed papers into this shredder NONSTOP for well over 30 minutes and only stopped when I was totally bored and had filled two trash bags full of shredded material. I have done this multiple times and this shredder just keeps working, has never overheated. GREAT design, Amazon Basics! what a great value. Only Con has been mentioned, is that it is messy to empty, but for the price, the function is excellent.

The last shredder I ordered was over 10 years ago, it cost me about $30, it only shredded mix 5 pages. I had to remove all the staples and it jammed very often, that made me not like to shred my documents…. July, we moved, and they are 10 boxes of pepper needed to be shredded…. I finally killed my old shredder after half a box of paper… I searched the new shredder, this one caught my eye not just for the price and also NO STAPLES REMOVED NEEDED!!! I LOVE this shredder! It does everything the web described and it does quietly and quickly. It can easily go through 12 pages (I think I put in more than 12 pages sometimes). Without remove the staples, it was so much easier and quicker. I finished my 10 boxes stamens in 3 hrs. (that’s because I had to empty the container). I appreciate the handle, which allows me to move the heavy top for emptying the shreds. I like it has a transparent window on the side to let me see how full the tray is. The buttons are standard: auto, forward, reverse, and off. It has been half year so far, we are very pleased with the quality of this Shredder. Definitely recommend it.
