I’ve now owned this Amazon Kettle for 9 months. It is fantastic! Heats water very quickly. Compared to my built-in hot water dispenser, it provides boiling water (212 degrees) vs 185 from my built-in. Very important when it comes to French Press coffee and teas. The unit is clean, zero signs of rust, easy to fill and use, built well, and way more economical and energy efficient than the built-in dispenser I have, but don’t use anymore. A total no-brainer to use!

I needed a replacement kettle for my elderly mother who boils a kettle of water 5-10 times/day. She had trouble with the weight of 1.5L kettles when full, had destroyed the complicated/difficult opening button for the filling lid on others, she could not handle a fancy digital kettle and several expensive kettles died under her heavy daily usage. I bought one of these for her 3 years ago and it is still working well. The simplicity of the vertical slim design with an obvious button to open the lid for the fill, an obvious button to turn it on and the small 1L capacity (reasonable weight when full) were perfect for her. I have bought this kettle for another relative who also loves it and I just bought another one for myself as a backup kettle when the kettle in my home office (or my mother’s current kettle) dies. Simple, effective, fast boiling and auto shut for those who like real boiled water for tea or pour-over coffee.

This review is for Amazon Basics Electric Glass and Steel Hot Tea Water Kettle, 1.7-Liter, Black and Silver. I got this to replace a stainless steel Ascot electric kettle which worked wonderfully for about 3 years and before that an Ovente cordless glass kettle which also worked for 3 years. I know it was 3 years because I am diligent with recording all my purchases and they all seem to die by the 3 year mark. I’m not sure if this is planned obsolescence but this has been my personal experience. I thought about getting another Ascot again but it’s expensive and if I’m only going to get 3 years out of it, why spend any more than what I have to for an electric kettle? Don’t do what I did thinking a more expensive one will last any longer! I went with this one because my parents have it so I know it works and it works well for them. Why not go with something I know works? I like it a lot and it boils water pretty fast. I like electric kettles for the convenience of being able to boil water and walk away knowing it would turn off once ready. Gone are the days of waiting patiently for the whistling of the kettle so that I can shut off the stove! Who has time anymore? I only use filtered water to make my coffee and tea and I normally check the temperature of the water before I use it depending on whether I’m making tea or coffee. Some things that I’ve observed, and others have pointed out, is that the water boils at 7 minutes and 30 seconds for me with 1.7L (Max) of filtered Brita water (whether refrigerated or room temperature). Obviously, the less water, the quicker the kettle comes to a boil (3 minutes for 1.0L). The kettle will automatically shut off when it hits about 210-212°F (based on the 3-4 readings that I’ve taken). This is a little bit too hot for my coffee and tea so I usually wait a bit for it to cool down to between 195-205°F for coffee and between 160-180°F for my tea. There are kettles out there where one can set the desired temperatures, but for the price and quality of this kettle I think it’s working out fine for me. I like the wide opening because it’s easy to fill and also easy to stick my hands inside to clean with a sponge. I couldn’t do this with my last kettle and that was so annoying! Pro Tip: In my experience, if the kettle doesn’t turn on or seems dead, descaling the pot will often restore it back to normal. This was the case with my Ascot where once I descaled it, it worked again for several more months. I had to do this 3-4 times during those 3 years before it died completely. Also, if it doesn’t turn on after cleaning, try spinning the kettle to different contact points on the base. This too was the case with my old kettles. I had to slowly spin the kettle on the base to get it to light up and run. Eventually this didn’t work either so here I am once again looking for a new kettle! Overall, I’m pleased with this Amazon Basics kettle. I like the size, quality, design, features, and boil speed. I would still recommend it and I give it a 5.0/5.0. – 06/15/2024.

Veremos si es duradero, por que el tema que ha sido reincidente con todas las teteras eléctricas de diversas marcas que he comprado es que se descomponen entre tres y seis meses. Esta parece estar construida con una mayor calidad, entonces tengo la expectativa que dura cuando menos un año y medio, lo que considerarÃa un trato justo respecto al precio. Yo no considero que le doy un uso fuerte. Generalmente la uso una vez al dÃa por las mañanas para calentar 1.25 litros y ocasionalmente al medio dÃa. Esto no representa un uso intenso. Entonces, veremos cuánto dura y regresaré a actualizar esta nota que escribo el 28 de agosto de 2024. Mientras tanto, sà recomiendo comprarla ya que es un producto de calidad superior en su rango de precio. Espero resulte útil.

This is a great no frills option if you just want boiling water. No temperature gauges or programs, just start and wait for it to boil. We have a fancy one in the kitchen but wanted something for the downstairs living area an this little kettle fits the bill perfectly.

I’ve own at least a couple dozen electric kettles in the last 50 years. This is the best one I’ve ever had. Most kettles take at least 10-15 minutes to boil the water. This little gem gives you piping hot water in about 5-7 minutes depending on how much water you use. It has an automatic shut off when the water boils which I love because I get distracted and forget. Another feature I love is the kettle lifts off the base so you’re not fighting with the cord. It also looks great on my cupboard and takes up very little room. Would definitely recommend this kettle. Super buy for the price.

This is a great little pot – heats quickly and it’s so convenient to lift off the base & not have to worry about dealing with an attached plug. The exterior does get HOT though, so you need to be careful to not have it near anyone that might hurt themselves (children/elderly) and keep it away from anything plastic. If you’re reasonably careful, it’s just a fine little kettle. I love the small size and simple style.
