Our cable company said we needed to upgrade so we would get the speeds at home that we were paying for. Rather than renting a modem, we bought this one. It has done the job. It was easy to install and a quick set up after calling the cable company. I like that we can still have our own separate Wifi network.

I bought this as an upgrade to a low end modem we were using and after installing it in our new home was profoundly disappointed in it’s operation.
The cable enters the house in our utility room, surrounded on 2 sides by a concrete slab and on top by the HVAC ductwork it is almost the perfect faraday cage. I’m using the Google mesh system with their current router and 4 points, wifi was always sketchy, all of the points had low connections. But the worst of it was I kept loosing the internet connection, probably a dozen times a day the internet would go down, watching anything streaming was an act of patience as we spent almost as much time watching the spiny thing as the show. I eventually found my way to Netgear Genie, the modems setup page, looking at the event log the pages (it stores only 2) were filled with critical errors, usually both pages and probably more were filled up in a days time. Nothing I did seemed to help, I reset the modem, turned everything off, changed the cables and was on the verge of calling Mediacom for help. To help with the wifi I decided to relocate the router to a utility closet about 20 feet away, ran high speed cable and connected it to the modem. Almost ALL of the errors disappeared, in the weeks since I did this I had 4 errors the 1st day and nothing after that and have not lost internet connectivity once. I’m guessing that there is something affecting the modem in close proximity to the wireless router, they were originally about 12″ apart, some break in the cable shielding or a component in the modem was being affected.
Anyway, if you’re seeing downed internet try separating the modem and router as far as you can ( Inverse sq law). After I did this the modem has been operating flawlessly.

Overall, I like the Netgear cable modem interface, but that doesn’t excuse the device’s poor performance.
Throughout the last month, I consistently had connection resets and numerous errors filling up my connection error logs. I suspect it’s a faulty chip that handles or manages the connection with the cable headend. Hundreds of thousands of uncorrectable codewords, reboot after reboot, 3 cable tech visits, and nothing could correct it.
The cable company swapped out the modem with one of theirs (ugh, I know), and instantly the connection issues were resolved. No uncorrectables, no issues. Full gigabit-speed connectivity.
With this in mind, I wanted to return my faulty Netgear cable modem. Amazon’s return period expired in January. They pointed me to Netgear for support. Netgear’s policies basically say it’s out of support, and no RMAs or returns are permitted.
At the moment, I have a $130+ piece of junk that I can’t return. And now I have to buy another cable modem. Beware if you buy Netgear products on Amazon – you get virtually no support. And it might even be defective without any recourse.

I ordered this back on October 4, 2023, its now September 1, 2024 so its been almost a year. I was a bit skeptical about how well this would do given some of the negative reviews and the fact that I bought it as a ‘renewed’ item. I replaced my old Arris Surfboard Docsis 3.0 modem and let me tell you this thing doubled my internet speeds. Its been a workhorse since then. The setup is super easy and it kinda just sets itself up for you. I’ve had to power cycle this thing several times whenever I see super slow speeds or Netflix isn’t loading. Its the whole turn it off and back on again and that’s the only thing I’ve ever had to do to fix any issues with speed. The last time I had to reboot it was probably over a month ago. I can’t recommend this enough to anyone wanting to get a discounted, high quality item!

I bought this to save the $15/month charge to rent one from comcast. I feel confident that this will pay for itself over time. Setup was simple and easy with comcast’s app, just input the mac address and in a few minutes you are good to go! Speedtests show me getting 956mbs down.
