Let me introduce you to Roy, the rotund angel fish who’s been living his best life thanks to this flake fish food. You see, Roy here used to be a bit of a porker, indulging in other brands of fish food like they were going out of style. But ever since I switched to these flakes, Roy has transformed from pudgy to positively svelte – he’s practically doing underwater aerobics in his tank! It’s like witnessing a fishy miracle before my very eyes. Not only is Roy shedding the pounds, but he’s also become the envy of the aquarium community with his newfound fishy physique. I swear, I caught him flexing his fins in the mirror the other day. So, if you’ve got a Roy of your own who’s been hitting the fish food buffet a little too hard, do him a favor and switch to these flakes. Your fishy friend will thank you, and who knows, maybe they’ll even invite you to their underwater fitness classes. Just don’t be surprised if you start seeing fish-sized yoga mats and tiny dumbbells floating around the tank – Roy’s on a mission to get ripped!

These flakes are made for every different size of fish. I used to have a few tiny fishes and the food pallets were too big for their mouth to eat. They died because I didn’t realize that. However, this fish food product can eliminate that problem. Any size fish can easily eat it. The food is really nutrient and the fish are so healthy due to it. The flake doesn’t cloud up the tank easily, which is good for keeping the water clean.

Great price and very flavorful. A little dry but a little milk went a long way

I feed my Gold Fish & Platys this stuff, they absolutely love it. I noticed that the fry from my platys eat off it too and they grow quicker than what I previously was feeding the fry. Love Aqueon, the price is affordable to even low income individuals, the feed is phenomenal. A++, definitely will be buying again.

    Pros:

    1. The quality of the flakes is decent, and most of my tropical fish seem to like them.
    2. They don’t cloud the water, helping to maintain water clarity.
    3. The container is well-designed, preventing spills and keeping the flakes fresh.

    Cons:

    1. Some of the flakes are a bit large for smaller fish, also it stales after a couple times of use. making it challenging for them to eat.
    2. While the flakes serve as a sufficient food source, I didn’t notice a significant improvement in my fish’s overall health or vibrancy.
    3. The price is somewhat higher compared to other alternatives in the market.

In summary, Aqueon Tropical Flakes provide a middle-of-the-road option for feeding your tropical fish. They do the job but don’t excel. If you’re looking for an affordable and practical choice, they might be worth considering, although keep in mind the size concern for smaller fish.

These flakes feed more consistently from my Neptune automatic feeder than any others I have tried. The flakes are half (or less) the size of other marine flakes such as the well regarded TetraMin Tropical Flakes, which I previously used. The Aqueon Tropical Flakes feed through the aperture in my automatic feeder in the same consistant amount almost every time without clogging or spilling. The TetraMin flakes did not.

I received a free sample of the Aqueon flakes with another Amazon fish food order about 2 months ago, tried them, and I have been using the flakes since then. I have a 100 gallon high tech low nutrition saltwater reef system. I feed the Aqueon flakes in small amounts to my saltwater fish (2 Clowns, 4 Anthias, 1 Yellow Tang, 2 Banngai Cardinalfish, 1 Royal Gamma, 1 Blue/ Green Chromis and 1 Firefish) 3 times per day by automatic feeder. I also feed pellets in small amounts ( Hikari Marine S) three times per day by automatic feeder, and frozen food by hand once per day.

The ingredient analysis on the Aqueon container shows that the flakes are slightly less nutritious than some others, e.g., TetraMin. For instance, the Aqueon flakes claim a “guaranteed” minimum “crude protein” analysis of 41% while TetraMin claims 47%. So one would have to feed slightly more Aqueon flakes (6% more) to reach the same level of protein nutrition as TetraMin. I don’t know what practical effect that difference has on either fish health or water quality, but it must have some. Time will tell if the difference is material. So far I have not noticed or detected any measurable effect, and I test my water every week.

In my case, my tank and all my fish are less than one year old and not fully mature. My fish still prefer smaller foods. None of them have demonstrated any resistance to the smaller flakes, even the Banggai Cardinalfish, which are notoriously fussy. In any event, to me the convenience of using the flakes right out of the container with my automatic feeders (without having to crush them) outweighs the nutrition difference. I could never crush larger flakes into consistent smaller sizes that would consistently flow through my automatic feeder. The Aqueon Tropical flakes are all consistently small sized so they consistently feed from my Neptune automatic feeder without either clogging or over-feeding.
