EDIT: updating BIOS to 1.20 enables default XMP (3600mhz) to now post and work. Do update if you’re having any issues. B550 is a new range so giving ASrock the benefit of the doubt.

Great budget B550 motherboard which suits my build fine. Paired with a Ryzen 3600 and Vega 56. Enough SATA and USB ports for my usage. Note that the WIFI version has less SATA ports.

Do watch out about RAM and XMP combability though – my Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (CMW16GX4M2Z3600C18) doesn’t boot with the XMP (3600mhz) profile on; at the time of this review (latest BIOS installed 1.10). There’s a beta bios (1.10A) out that might improves XMP profile and RAM support.

Best I can achieve is downclocking to 3534mhz (after enabling XMP). Asrock suggests tweaking with the VDDCR SOC & DRAM voltage to get it to 3600mhz, but holding off on that for now. Perhaps a future BIOS update would help compatibility. If you’re concerned check the boards QVL on the official website for background research (CMW16GX4M2Z3600C18 aren’t listed).

And everything worked and booted up first try as soon as I put everything into another Mobo that I bought from Microcenter!

I wasted practically 2 whole days troubleshooting my entirely new build that somehow won’t POST, and give No Signal to my monitor. I even tried to put my old hardware in there and still throws up the CPU and DRAM light indicator error. Thought mine were faulty, threw my old stuff back into a generic Dell motherboard and it booted up. Then I threw my new 5900x in there but the Dell mobo doesn’t support AMD 5000 series so I couldn’t conclude that it was my faulty CPU.

Did all the tricks you can find on Google trying to fix those 2 error lights on this mobo – which there are many with this same issue, several with this same motherboard or from Asrock – nothing worked. Pulled everything out, reinstalled, double checked my PSU plugs, mobo plugs, tightening screws, loosening screws, reseating RAMs, trying with only 1 RAM – in all DIMM slot combination, and all the crap that I could pull off in 2 days and ended up with several swole fingers – I took a 40 minutes drive to and back from Microcenter with another mobo in hand and guessed what?

Uh oh… CPU light, DRAM light… then VGA light? It cycled through those 3 lights, I thought for sure oh no it’s my new parts that are at fault! Nope. It was just a regular cycle, after a few seconds, monitor displayed and I’m in.

Bottom line… either I was really unlucky to get a defective one of the batch, or this specific motherboard got some shoddy quality control as I’ve seen several people having this same issues on this same board, some got it fixed after trying various things and it just resolved itself randomly, some just had to straight out replace the board like I did to fix it.

Asrock website says the board does not support Ryzen 5000 series without a BIOS update. I can’t tell if mine is updated or not, the BIOS version sticker on the board was crossed out with a marker or something so I’m assuming it was either updated or tampered with. Either way, it didn’t work and wasted my whole weekend.

Needless to say, I’m a little irritated and will be returning this board for a refund and I can’t for the good conscience of me recommending this board to others, unless I want to torture them and make them gamble on a board that is pretty attractive for the price x features.

It is a B550 motherboard. Forward and backward compatibility is great, and the stats are good. It comes with wifi 5. I believe the wifi chip can be taken off if you want. I appreciate the UEFI BIOS. Good value when I got it.

This motherboard is a good one, but it is completely dead on arrival. Buy it from a reliable website instead of amazon or scorptec.

Pro’s are that it’s a budget Motherboard with most of the high end features. As of 3/2022 mine has it’s BIOs already @1.20 , that’s necessary for Ryzen 5 CPU”s. Really good solid Motherboard.
Cons none really, personally don’t like the BIOs layout. Easy enough to get past.
I’m using a Ryzen 5 5600x , RX6600xt ,RAM16gb 3200MHz . Running it all in a PoS no air case temps are good. Idle CPU@ 36° GPU@ 33° . While Gaming everything and anything CPU temps stay in the mid 60s.
I’m very satisfied with this Motherboard

I found this board to be fairly good for the money. Onboard sound was sufficient, XMP enabled my ram to run at 3600mhz. Neutral colors go well with any build. There is no RGB on the board itself but does come with RBG/aRGB headers for fans or led strips.

Biggest issue that I found with this board is the m.2 slot sits directly under the graphics card and any NVME drive will get heat coming off of it. In addition, PCIe 4.0 drives that have large heatsinks may not have enough clearance.

I planned on using a 256GB SSD coupled with a 2TB Firecuda using AMD’s StoreMI however, StoreMI didn’t not allow me to use this arrangement. Wouldn’t even install and said the SATA configuration was not supported and I would have to use a NVME drive.

I usually went with MSI motherboards but this ASRock ticked off everything I was looking for so I gave it a chance. I put a Ryzen 3500X and some Crucial memory in it, plugged it in and… nothing happened. Oops! Plugged in my graphics card and it powered up without a hitch. The B550 chipset , 4 memory slots, and cpu upgrade-ability were the key factors in choosing this motherboard, and for about $100 it was a no brainer. I ran mbr2gpt on my SSD, enabled UEFI in the BIOS settings and am all set to run Win11 now. Haven”t tried to OC it yet, will update when I do.
