This dock has been amazing at letting me stream content from my nintendo switch and even my steam deck!

This video capture device from AVerMedia is very flexible. Although it’s targeted more at users with a Steam Deck and other similar devices, it also supports video capture from iPhones and iPads. I plan to initially use it to capture videos of my son playing games on his iPad. He eventually wants to post some of those to YouTube, like so many others have done. I can also see other uses for this, such as recording regular videos and presentations that I like to watch. I love the fact that you can capture 4K video without even needing a computer. All you need is a microSD card, which is where all of the captured video is saved.

A lot of the small game system docks I’ve seen don’t have much in terms of features, but not here. HDMI out, 4k support, USB C for streaming, a built-in SD card slot, and perhaps the coolest feature the “one-click recording”. Get to a sweet new level or secret area in a game and don’t want to spend forever setting up your equipment? Me neither. Just hit the button on the front. You can’t miss it. Pause…click…unpause, and you’re recording. I don’t think I’ve SEEN anything work easier.
By far one of the better handheld docks I’ve seen. It’s packed with features, which makes it actually worth the price. 5 stars.

The AVerMedia Steam Deck Dock is a top-notch docking solution with excellent 4K@60Hz performance and HDR10 support. It’s perfect for my Steam Deck and also works well with other devices like the Nintendo Switch, Lenovo Legion Go, MSI Claw, and even iPhones and iPads. The HDMI output delivers stunning visuals, enhancing my gaming and streaming experiences. It does require a separate power adapter, with a 65W or higher recommended for optimal performance. The dock also includes two USB-A 3.0 ports, ideal for connecting peripherals like a mouse and keyboard. Screen mirroring and video capture features are standout aspects, especially for capturing gameplay from the Nintendo Switch, and all the devices mentioned above, either to a microSD card or directly to a PC. However, it’s important to note that it doesn’t fit the ROG Ally X. Despite this, the dock is sturdy, versatile, and highly functional for a wide range of devices.

What doesn’t make sense to me is this device is simply a capture card for handheld gaming devices, specifically marketed for the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, MSI Claw, Legion Go. All of which are essentially handheld PCs. However, in order to stream you still need another PC which a laptop or desktop these days are much more capable streaming devices. So, for $200 you can get an exceptional capture card or get a capable card for less and simply steam with a PC.
Second complaint, this docking station has limited support for controllers. Exclusively wired controllers do not work. For the life of me, I don’t get that. It does support wired controllers with wireless capabilities. To make it worse, this docking station only has 2 USB ports which are intended for use with a mouse, keyboard, and microphone. I count three…four if you include the controller. I realize all the devices can be connected to your PC, but that leaves me still wondering, what is the point of this thing?
The docking station was a very tight fit for my Steam Deck with glass screen protector. So no case will fit. It also gets pretty hot on the bottom.
OBS does recognize this device and I successfully streamed to Twitch via OBS.
Overall, if this was a standalone device, it makes more sense. But the way I see it, this is a glorified capture card that holds a handheld device upright. Hard pass.

This is a great new docking station. It has all the inputs and output that you could possibly want, with an SD card slot and headphone jack as well. I have been working with it for a little while and have it mostly set up the way I want it. I think it will take me a while yet to fully understand everything that it can do. I think it will be perfect for sharing my content online. It seems to be made very well and looks great.

The suggested computer specs for the software is either i5 for a desktop or i7 for a laptop. Although my laptop is only i3 I downloaded the software anyhow. This probably won’t playback the 4K/60fps off of my laptop, but I can see what this is capable of when I install it on my desktop later.
Within an hour of starting I was able to download the streaming center software, update the software on the device, and go through the motions of activating the camera on my laptop for capture, and went through the motion of testing the other quick inputs from my computer alone — screen capture, picture, and text.
There is a slot in the side of the device for media recording on a Micro SD card rated up to 1 TB.
Obviously there is going to be some learning curve but it seems simple enough, and is intuitive enough that it is not an arduous task. I need to spend a little time with it, but so far, so good. I like it.
My streaming knowledge, education, and experience are in the beginner range, and this device suits me well.

This was so easy to sync up to work tv to play our Switch. Much easier to play Mario Kart games. No huge delay on input controls.
