Sand Land has been a very nice surprise this year, and a great tribute to Akira Toriyama- the Japanese Manga Artist and Character Designer who created Dragonball and worked on video game series like Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, Blue Dragon and many others. He passed away earlier this year, so it’s cool to see Sand Land come out this year, which based on his Manga of the same name.
This is an Unreal Engine 5 game, it actually runs at native 4k 60fps on PS5 (according to Digital Foundry Direct episode 162). I specifically bought this version over PC, despite my desktop being more powerful than the PS5 because the Steam version is riddled with shader compilation and traversal stutter. It runs perfectly on PlayStation 5 though, I recommend this version over PC.
The game reminds me of something that you would play during the 6th or 7th console generation, it’s a fun adventure game, set in an open world with lots of cool vehicle combat. You get a tank not too far into the game but you slowly are able to build more cool mechs and other vehicles. I would classify this as a AA game, it has a decent budget and good voice acting and cinematics. Just nothing as crazy as what you would see in a PlayStation Studios game where they spend millions on expensive cutscenes that arguably aren’t necessary (at least not at such a high fidelity), this is one of the bad habits (imo) that has caused game development cycles to reach 6-8 years for a single game.
I found this game to be a refreshing return to how games used to be, it’s doing a lot of things and manages to do a pretty good job at many of them, but it’s not trying to GREAT at any of them (and that is OK!). I honestly wish we would see more games like this, it’s very enjoyable and you can get many hours out of this game. I’m 20 hours in and not even close to the end yet. I recommend it and am glad Bandai Namco and ILCA made this!

this is quite an amazing game. You swap different type of tanks, bikes, etc to attach enemies as well as fight with your characters. I am loving it as it is not boring but keeps my attention going

Right off the bat I’d say one of the highlights of this game is the characters themselves, very quirky funny at moments dialogue. Lot of the gameplay takes place in the bots that you get as you play and control in battle or most around from a to b in the game. Graphics have that nice cell shaded style which always looks cool. Great game by Akira Toriyama RIP

Me gustó este tipo de juegos, aunque en algunos momentos por la historia no te deja moverte libre mente (tal vez porque sería muy peligroso y te matarían facilmente o no se)
me eh entretenido con este juego, vi unos capítulos del anime y viendo algunos game play de como puedes usar (mas delante) varios vehículos sin en cualquier momento por eso me animé a comprarlo y valió la pena =)

This game is apparently based on an anime, I had no idea. You do not need to have any knowledge of the anime in order to enjoy the game. This is a great piece and showcase by Mr. Toriyama full of great character development and rich story telling. You play as a demon prince who wishes to save humanity and as you progress through the world and story you gain access to really diverse and neat vehicles to do combat in. Greatly recommend, it’s not an overly long game, it took me about 50ish hours to complete and that was with heavy focus on side quests as well. Focusing on just the main story line would only take you about half that time

The game is fantastic. If you are a Dragonball fan, Toriyama’s artwork will certainly be welcome and the small similarities between Sand Land’s world and the Dragonball world are very fun to make out. The game in itself is fantastic – an excellent world that is tons of fun to explore and interact with, a very captivating and interesting story, and fun gameplay and combat mechanics that keep you on your toes.
