The best horror game that I’ve played in a long time. The story is great and the graphics are superb. I can’t stop playing it. If you buy this game make sure you have 40 gigs of memory available on your hard drive, because that’s what it requires. Also, make sure you install the latest updates and disable “letterbox” or you’ll be upset with the reduced screen height. I’ve always been pleased with Bethseda’s games and this one is one of their best.

If you want a game with characters you won’t be able to remember, controls that are frustrating, a story-line that (never mind, there is no discernible story-line), a linear game wrapped in a 3D world, and that oh-so-wonderful feeling of, “oh wait, I just beat the boss, but I was randomly pushing buttons like I’ve done a thousand times before, and now I advanced…dumb-luck”, then this game is a must-have!

Honestly, I was so excited to get this game, even purchased a new graphics card to drive it!
I thought maybe I was becoming immune to games while playing this because I felt mixed emotions of boredom, frustration, inability to follow the characters or story-line or controls or levels, but then I searched for more reviews and found that many gamers expressed the dismay, although much more eloquently.

If you’re a fan of Silent Hill and Resident Evil, you will totally get into this game. The game is not very demanding, but it totally has nice graphics. I also enjoy the old school vibe it gives you. This game is a game you don’t want to play at 7am, don’t be a chicken man up, and play this game at 12am. Grow a pair and give it a shot. The game its super creepy and the only way you will enjoy this game at its full potential, its by playing it at night.

Sandbox game with very good graphics and chaptered goals. I am a fan of open architecture games such as Skyrim but spent many hours playing this game. I gave it 4 stars for its entertainment value even though I stopped at the start of the third chapter.

First I must say I really do not like third person games … looking over the shoulder of your character is very unnatural for me, but that is not really any part of this story.
I purchased this mainly because of the Bethesda name … and my pleasure with the Fallout series. I am sadly disappointed from many aspects.
I gave this 2 stars because it is not that I dislike the game completely. I think I could grow to like it more … if only I could play it.
The game was designed for a game pad and not really a keyboard, which I think reflects on why many of the commands do not work quite correctly. I also run twin screens, major being the screen to my left. Everything I have done to try and rectify the game, still does not allow me to play on the left screen, only the right screen.
Game is far from stable, popping back and forth from full screen to minimized screen when ever it feels like it. Sometimes I have to restart Steam/Evil several times before it finally comes up (on the wrong screen).
One might ask; why not simply look for help to solve the problems … this brings up another little problem; Try finding any support for the game, especially from the game designers back in Japan. I am tech savvy, but spending bucks on something only to have to work on it for hours is not my idea of a good time. I work to make the money … and actually want some time to relax after spending those $$$.
I also purchased Evil II, thinking I would get my feet wet with the first before jumping into the second, if things keep going the way they have been … I have a feeling it will be for sale on Ebay (unopened) in the next few months.

I don’t have the beefiest PC in the world but it’s no slacker either (i5 3570k with 2 Radeon 6950s and 12 GB of system RAM). This game still ran like s***. I couldn’t get over 30 FPS even though I made sure to tweak the FPS cap (the game offers a cap of either 30 or 60) and turn down most settings “Medium”. On top of that, when I tried to lower the resolution to 1280×720 in an effort to improve the framerate, the game shrank and added more letterboxing instead of resizing and then stretching the game to fill the screen at a lower resolution.
The game also suffers from some pretty severe texture pop-in. This isn’t surprising since it uses the idTech 5 engine but this game is the worst offender of the idTech 5 games I’ve played. It was a huge problem in cut-scenes which was unfortunate because it made them pretty tough to watch.
The story itself was interesting if not a little cliche. It kept me pushing to see what was next. Unfortunately the ending was less than satisfying and some heavy sequel-bait. That said, the FEAR series has a similar story and I think it handles the story better.
The gameplay is reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 which isn’t surprising considering Shinji Mikami designed both games. Unfortunately I don’t feel like I can honestly review the difficulty of the game. The poor framerate made it really difficult to react to some of the quicker enemies and in the end I set the game on Easy so I could enjoy the story without getting too frustrated.

Purchased in 2018, finally installed and played it through in 2021. Ran well, Great graphics, with a somewhat convoluted story. Still engaging though.
I decided in 2023 to replay it to get all of the achievements (I had 13 when I started, and the game and DLCs total 71). That required multiple playthroughs, but I enjoyed each of them.
If you can pick this up, I would recommend it.
