I understand the frustrations of a lot of gamers here regarding the difficulty and I agree what is casual is actually hard mode they should have had a very easy mode because this is a very hard game for non experienced players me included in fact at some point in chapter 10 I gave up when confronted with Laura,I got killed 68 times if you can believe it but I saw a video and realized you don’t have to kill her and after that I froze her 2 times and stunned her 2 times and shot the 4 levers to open the gate and escape and it was so easy!you have to play smart in this game in some cases.
The crazy thing is that the game is very hard from beginning to chapter 10 after that it is easy!
The game has one of the best beginnings if not the best in video game history, which is you hanging upside down and waking up while the sadist is taking off the hook some guy and butchering him while you watch,if that’s not scary I don’t know what is,then when you start running trying to get away from the sadist has your adrenaline pumping on max!
The story seems convoluted but you have to play and the main story and the DLC to understand the whole story and let me tell you it’s a fascinating story that will also prepare you for the evil within 2 which is much more player friendly and not half as hard!
PS:play the game smart don’t try to kill everyone and also upgrade your running that is a game changer.

The Evil Within was one game that I’ve been anticipating for a long time ever since it was announced last year. The Evil Within is a Survival Horror game directed and created by the godfather of the Survival Horror genre Shinji Mikami, who was the creator of Resident Evil. Shinki Mikami is back to direct a game that delivers pure Survival Horror in the hopes of reviving the genre. Let’s first talk about what the game is about, the story goes something like this: Detective Sebastian Castellanos witnesses the slaughter of a few fellow officers and gets ambushed and knocked unconscious. After he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror, and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a horrifying journey to unravel what’s behind this evil force. The story is interesting but it does suffer from a few questionable scenes that makes it a little confusing but nevertheless it’s still fascinating. On to visuals, the graphics are gorgeous but there will be a couple instances of texture pop-in but it doesn’t show up particularly often. On to game play, you play as Sebastian where you will be using a variety of weapons to defend yourself from enemies as well as perform certain tasks like sneak kills and running from enemies when protection is not available. When it comes to weapons, you start off with a revolver but you get more weapons like a shotgun, sniper rifle, and a couple others but your most versatile weapon is the Agony Crossbow, a crossbow that can be used to shoot a variety of different arrows that can be crafted from mechanical parts collected from disassembling traps and killing enemies, this weapon is very helpful when you have little to no ammunition for your other guns. You can also upgrade your skills like longer running and increasing maximum health, weapons and ammo capacities with green gel, which can be collected from killing enemies, boss battles and looking around for resources. The Evil Within was a fantastic and satisfying horror game that kept me on the edge of my seat when playing and got me freaking out when deadly enemies are coming after me. If you like horror games, The Evil Within is simply not to be missed, it’s available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. There is still a chance to get a copy with the Fighting Chance Pack which consists of a Medical Kit, Double Barrel Shotgun, Incendiary Agony Bolt, Poison Agony Bolt, and some Green Gel to start upgrading.

The Evil Within is one of those games that my wife bought for me for Christmas and was on my “oh thanks I love it but not really pile” so I put it aside and continued on my backlog of games, I finally got around to it just to show my wife that I indeed was going to get to it and after the second chapter it was over. This is what I was looking for when I first popped in re5 and 6 but was let down. The atmosphere and overall art of the game is very engrossing. The story is a little bland but the gameplay is top notch, it is dark and it is creepy. The game isn’t without it’s flaws, there are “cinematic bars” I call them where there are thick bars on top and bottom of the screen that take a little bit to get used to and by the 5th chapter I didn’t even notice they were there. Doors do not highlight so you can open doors but the game won’t tell you that you can. The aiming is a little stiff and the controls are even stiffer but it adds to the suspension. This is by no means an easy game and it will punish you if you try to bring strategies that you learned from other third person shooters, ammo is not plentiful but the enemies are so you will need to learn how to take out multiple enemies with the least amount of supplies. It’s going back to what survival horror should of been which is learning how to survive. All in all this is a very solid game that I’m proud to have in my collection and can’t wait to get to the dlc story arc, and given the current state of big hyped letdowns that this current generation has been that’s saying a lot from a seasoned gamer.
