I absolutely love these three toed shoes. They’re extremely lightweight. The sizing fits my feet well. As for durability, I generally get about two years or so out of each pair and I run around everywhere in them since I enjoy being barefoot as much as possible. There are a decent value for the money, especially when you can get them on sale.

I bought these shoes to replace a pair of water shoes that were starting to deteriorate and were really uncomfortable. It took an hour or so of having these on until I got used to the 3 toe pockets. Initially I was concerned they wouldn’t fit my toes. My second toe is longer than my big toe, then the last 3 are all much shorter and sort of curl under. Was not a problem with these shoes and once you get used to the feeling of the material between your first 3 toes they are pretty comfy. There is a velcro strap over the instep, as well as a cinch strap behind the heel, so you can get these pretty well adjusted to your feet. I liked the adjustments, since most water shoes I have had in the past never seem to fit well.

These are MUCH wider than a normal “shoe” style shoe. I found it to be a big help in the water. The wider toe-box offset the disadvantage of swimming in water with shoes on- the shape ends up being almost like a mini fin. I could swim as good or better than if I had been barefoot. I have a 4 and 5 year old that wear life preservers and I swim around with. With these shoes on there were no problems keeping up with them (or treading water when they were trying to drown me).

They also did fairly well walking along the riverbank and river bottoms. The area I am in has a lot of flint, and flakes can be razor sharp (this is the stuff arrowheads were made of). The sole protected me from any cuts or scrapes and I had no issues stepping on branches or with thorns.

The shoes are more of a barefoot style- the soles are extremely flexible and don’t really provide any support. If you are unaccustomed to the this type of shoe and want to use them for anything other than swimming you may need a transitional period. When you step on an object (rock, tree branch, etc.) the shoe is going to flex around it. You will feel the edges and points of the object. It won’t penetrate the shoe, but if you are on uneven terrain (such as a rock riverbed) your feet may get sore after awhile. I prefer to go barefoot and wear this style shoe so I had no issues with it, but something to be aware of. If you are on sandy beaches, mostly in a kayak, or swimming, this won’t be as much of an issue.

Bottom Line- These were exactly what I needed in a water shoe for river use and when these are worn out I will buy the same model as replacements.

These are fantastic water shoes. Fit great. Can swim with them. But – they leak sand almost instantly. if you are swimming this is not a big deal, but if you have to keep your feet on the bottom for even 20-30 seconds, the sand flows into the shoes, and is very irritating. I also use neoprene booties for playing in surf. They don’t have the nice fit of the Barefoot Max shoe, but the neoprene does not allow sand in. I don’t know what to do. I love these Barefoots, but I can’t take the grinding sand on feet. I may try to use “liquid rubber” to close the holes and see if that helps. Great product. But not a small flaw.

Really well made, very comfortable and with no hard fastening on the top of the shoe they are also comfortable on the SUP if kneeling.. Very pleased, definitely recommend.

This seemed like a neat water shoe. Figured the individual toes and minimalist yet rugged sole would work well. Was very disappointed on so many levels with these. First off the fit was terrible. Big toe and the one right next to it were tough to get in and out of the shoe wet or dry. The toe box that the rest of the toes went into was to large and oddly shaped so your foot did not plant correctly when walking.

Looking at the shoes design with the drainage holes and the screen I thought that sand would not get in the shoes. I was very wrong. Within minutes of wearing these on the beach I had sand, and small rocks all through out the shoe. Also the spandex that the entire shoe except for the sole is made of offers little protection from rocks or sticks if you venture off the beaten path.

Without exageration this is the worst water shoe I have ever purchased. Brought these on a trip to Hawaii and after the first short miserable experience with them I was forced to buy a replacement or go without for the trip. The cheap $20 pair that I picked up performed far better than these. Poor design, poor execution, there is no way they put these through any real world testing as they literally filled with sand in seconds. Whats the point of water shoes if they fill with sand and rocks the moment you step on the beach?

My first opportunity to test these shoes was on a 4 hour heavy duty tube float on a creek in South Carolina. The shoes fit great and did a fine job draining the water out of the shoe. I still had fine sediment from the creek bed in left the shoe, but simply removing the shoe and rinsing it out got rid of it. I thought the soles had adequate protection and traction on rocks while maintaining a balance with foot flexibility.

This is the second pair of these shoes that I have bought. The first pair, which I chose true to shoe size, were delivered quickly but were grey instead of yellow. They were also a little snug. I sent them back and ordered a size up, again in yellow. I got the second pair which fit better but they were also grey instead of yellow. I’m keeping them but I really was hoping to get what I wanted (and ordered). Bottom line: I needed a size up from my normal size and don’t expect to get what you want as far as color goes.
