I honestly don’t know how I managed with out a multi-tool in the past. My most recent project was way easier with the Bosch multi-tool. I can’t remember the number of times I said, “Multi-tool!”, when I came up against a new problem but it was many. One blade I would recommend getting is a knife blade (no teeth) as I’ve found that it is very handy when a regular toothed blade would scare a surface.
Recommended.
Amazon Customer –
I got the tool as a gift so I didn’t get to use it within the 30 day return window. I missed by about 10 days. The first time I used the tool (about 5 minutes of run time) and I wanted to put it away into the bag, the blade would not release from the tool. This was the first time I tried to release the blade. This is the primary feature Bosch sells the tool with. Because I missed the 30 day window, Amazon will not take it back. I called Bosch and they will not take it back either because of the 30 day window so I settled for it to be repaired. I was told it would take 3 days to repair. It actually took 10 days to ship it back (not including shipping). When I got it back, I checked and the blade released correctly. Great. I used it again this weekend (the first time since getting it back). When I was done, I wanted to remove the blade to put the tool back in the bag. The exact same thing happened. The blade won’t release. I am a homeowner, not a contractor. The tool has about 15 minutes of actual light duty run time and it has broken twice. Bosch still won’t replace it, only repair it. Now I’m sending it back again. We’ll see how this repair goes. I don’t have much faith in their repair service. Consider yourself forewarned if you plan to buy one…

Bought as gift for my Husband. He couldn’t have been more pleased. It works just like advertised! Comes with kit with blades etc. Great buy.

Ok, first know what you are getting: this is the latest in blade lock tech which both Bosch and Fein are doing: it is a no-touch on and off starlock system for these blades. It will not take the old OIS blades, and does not advertise that it will.
What is confusing is that the OSL blades which work with this CAN be used on older Bosck multitools. So, there is blade compatibility backward, but again, the GOP40 will not take the OIS blades. The blade removal is absurdly easy: no more hex wrnech or tool to put blades on and off. They literally snap on, and with a turn of the lever, pop right off. Because of the numerous contact points of the blade connection, I am finding that the power transfer feels stronger and there is no slop at all in the blade movement. And you still have all of the angles of attachment too.
The unit itself is a beast. 4 amp motor is top in its class, so there is no lack of power even at the lowest setting. The housing is bombproof, but fortunately the tool is fairly light at 3.5 lbs and feels good in the hand with significantly less vibration than cheaper units. Noise level is less than expected for a multitool. As for uses, just go on youtube. This tool is a lifesaver for doing your own renovation work. Just for removing old caulk, this unit was worth its weight in gold.
If you are debating about this unit versus ones that still take OIS, I would note that OIS blades are alot cheaper and there are generics out there. However, I would expect that even the cheaper units will catch up with the new blade attachment system in a few year, so why buy into the old tech unless you are simply destroying tons of blades. In all, I am super happy with the GOP 40.

I purchased the tool to cut the bottoms off the door casing in the house for new flooring. I have a number of Bosch tools and I love them all and this one is no exception. Sturdy feeling, long supple cord and did an amazing job. I sorta wish I paid more and got the hard case but that’s my fault. Bosch seems to be able to maintain consistent quality over the years. I love that.

My floor replacement plan for this tool was put on hold. Finally used this tool to cut out a shelf under my sink. This was my first oscillating multi tool. I read tones of reviews before buying this and I have to say the extra bucks for this tool are well worth it. The Starlock system is genius. Can’t wait to get the flooring in now!

I have the older version of this tool that requires an Allen wrench to change the blades. I’ve cut in hundreds of old work boxes in blue board and horse hair plaster and love the tool. Also works great on wood.
I recently purchased this newer version and am very pleased with it. As an electrician this is one of the tools I use the most. The quick change blade system is much faster than the older version and the LED light is also a nice feature. The cord is also considerably longer in the newer version saving me from grabbing an extension cord. The blades are expensive but you get what you pay for.
I’ve used other multi tools and the Bosch vibrates much less than them which is key when trying to make a nice cut in brittle horse hair plaster. Overall very happy with this tool and would recommend to anyone especially electricians

Love the soft start , good power, and adjustable speed. How did I ever get this old without buying one of these!? The only thing I wish it had was a rotating head like Iโve seen on Ryobi.

I would say this Bosch Multi-tool is equal to the Fein Multi-tool. It is one of our most highly used tools in a commercial application. Home DIY use would probably never wear it out. It takes us approx. 2 years of heavy use to wear this tool out, although this new Starlock may make it last even longer because the old locking system is what gave out on our last one.
Outwest –
I’ve had cheaper lighter units that just couldn’t hang. This guy cuts steady and true. Has a nice balance of power and cutting stroke to handle detail and heavier work. Good tool.
Secret Weapon –
This is a really handy tool. It allows you to work quickly on a variety of materials and do precision cutting near other surfaces without worrrying about damaging them.
The single missing star is for safety. When you switch it on, it starts running and, even it you drop it or it hits a nail and jumps back, it continues to run. Every other power tool I own will stop if I let go of it, but this one doesn’t. I was enlarging a dryer vent hole, and kept wondering what would happen if it slipped through the floor into the crawl space below. There is a 220 line and a 110 line right near the vent, and if it had fallen just a few inches, it would have hit those wires.
Otherwise, this little gadget is nothing short of amazing. Comes with a box of blades and pads, as well as a tough fabric carrying bag. The cord is very long, and the worklight is a nice touch. You’ll need hearing protection, and beware that the blades can get very hot and may burn the working stock.

Good power, used it to cut some drywall and some spruce and worked very well. Used it for about thirty minutes so far and seems solid. Like the locking mechanism too
