Breville Juice Fountain® Cold XL Juicer, BJE830BSS

Like everything I have ever bought from Breville, this is a superb piece of kitchen equipment. It’s well engineered, and its rock-solid. The motor is more powerful than I have needed for anything I have put through the juicer. I usually make a full 2 liters of juice each time I use it, then freeze much of it, so that I do not have to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the machine as often. It’s a big machine, and when I put the parts in the sink to soak they fill the sink. Cleaning takes a lot of time, so I prefer to make large batches of juice.

I have had my machine for about a month now, and I use it daily. This thing will power through whatever you throw at it, given you use the correct speed for the type of produce. However, there are a couple of points I’d like to share:

PRO’s:
* I am really glad I went with the one with a stainless steel bowl. It’s a good quality metal (non-magnetic) and has a nice polished finished. This part needs to to be cleaned inside especially well, and if it was plastic (like most all the other juicers out there), it would just get scratched up very quickly.
* I appreciate the “variable” 3 three speeds, which optimize the amount of juice out of eat food. For instance, you definitely don’t want to push carrots through on low speed because it will bog down the machine. But juicing a lemon on high speed won’t yield as much juice.
* The screen is a very fine, but sturdy metal.
CON’s:
* There are a few areas that need particular attention when cleaning, more than just a quick rinse (as some reviewers have commented).
1: The screen obviously needs cleaning, and definitely needs the stiff brush to dislodge the pulp trapped within the mesh. BUT what is not as obvious is the buildup of food that can happen underneath the rim of the mesh bowl. If not cleaned consistently and well, it would become a source of bacteria which could get into your drink. So you need to scrape out any particles trapped in there. (I use a toothpick, or the tip of a sharp knife around that inside edge, and then a stiff brush.)
2: Likewise, under the rim of the bowl, food gets trapped under there too, and needs a thorough scrubbing. AND, that one is almost impossible to see when it’s cleaned. (You have to look through the bottom of the bowl in order to see the inside of the rim.)
* Some have complained that the pulp splatters out of the exit shoot, causing some of it to not go into the catch-bin. Yes, that can happen if you’re not careful to line up the catch-bin underneath the bowl properly. You can feel when there is a snug fit between the catch-bin and the back edge of the exit shoot. As long as you do this, you won’t have food flying out all over your counter.
* HOWEVER…sometimes, depending on what you’re juicing, some foods do splatter up out of the drop shoot before you can even get the plunger in place. When that happens, I simply place my hand over the shoot, and wash my hands when I’m done. (It doesn’t happen all the time, and I haven’t completely figured out what causes it, whether it’s the water content in the food or if it’s the machine’s speed, or a combination of both.) To me that’s not a big deal, but I can understand how that would bother some people.
* Some have complained about the noise. On low speed, it’s not an issue at all. On high, it is comparable to a hairdryer on high (albeit you don’t have a juicer up next to your head). Even so, it may warrant wearing ear protection when the juicer is going full speed.

Overall, an excellent machine. But I do hope if product development reads this review that they will redesign the top inside edges of both the screen assembly and the bowl unit, in order to seal those surfaces so that bacteria can’t build up inside.

I started juicing a couple of years ago and go through a lot of celery. This juicer is so fast and efficient. The pulp is very dry. I have only used it for carrots, blueberries and celery but is was amazing. It came quickly. I would definitely buy here again. I probably spent more time and effort buying juicers only to be disappointed. When I finally bit the bullet and decided to lay out $400 for the Breville my life became so much simpler. I purchased a previously owned model with substantial savings and it works great! I treasure the fact that you can put it through the dishwasher

I have never reviewed an item within an hour of receiving it but since I’m afraid of heights and cant shout from the rooftops here I am!

We are fairly new to juicing. Been doing so for about 2 to 3 months now. Initially we purchased a juicer here on Amazon for around $80. We thought it worked great. And then we watched the documentary ‘fact, sick, and nearly dead’. We saw the ease that Joe the Juicer had using this Breville model.

It’s quiet, easy to clean, is an absolute powerhouse at grinding and expressing the fruits and vegetables, and it yields so much more juice out of the produce! We were blown away.

If you’re having a hard time with the price, you are going to save that money just by getting more juice out of your produce. Seriously!

I cannot praise this machine enough. It’s a big timesaver for us and our busy lives.
