I tested this device in three manners. 1. In a fresh can of brake fluid. 2. In my family car. 3. In my older pick up truck. Worked like a charm. I have reason to believe it is accurate.

This tool makes me money for such a small investment. Contamination of brake fluid from moisture is not good. I’ve seen components corrode and break on older vehicles. I’ve pressurized vehicles and bledd bleeder screws that have not gotten regular brake flushes and the moisture content is almost always present I’m the master cylinder after using two or three quarts and the fresh fluid. usually the fluid in the master cylinder stays dark in color and I’m telling you, the fluid coming out of the bleeder screws looks clean. I’m going to begin testing the fluid coming out of the bleeder screws if they are convenient to catch and if the environment isn’t excessively humid. Anyways, the way I test the pen is test fresh brake fluid in a small sample then spray a mist of water with a sprayer bottleand monitor moisture ratings with the pen. I understand you can test brake fluid with a multimeter as well but this is so cheap and convenient. This brake fluid tester and then a good flare wrench set and l maybe even offset/modified offset wrenches just in case could be good for not having to remove a tire to open bleeder screws on vehicles equipped with electronic parking brake systems. I’m paid .5 labor which means the tool pays for itself after the first brake flush, so it’s a heavy hitting money tool. It’s very good guys and gals. Like an amazing tool. I like to purchase a new one every few months cause I basically test every vehicle during regular maintenance. Once it’s 4% or more then I suggest doing the maintenance. I’ve noticed vehicles who have regular flushes then the master cylinder is usually able to stay clean and keep moisture saturation low. There’s only one vehicle I tested that had absolutely perfect brake fluid inside the master cylinder which happened to be a Mercedes that likely recently had a brake flush. I was impressed.

It’s not the most accurate tester but get the job done. You don’t need to know what percentage your water content is, you just need to know it’s too high and time to change the fluid. Thats what this does.

Does not look like picture as advertised. You would have to use a sharp edged knife or something to open it. I am sending it back due to other comments about the battery cover and the inaccuracy of this product. Obviously a piece of garbage and not worth buying. The well-known YouTuber who suggested this will be contacted to tell him about his poor product suggestion

I bought this knowing I had some brake work coming up. I also had 2 other vehicles that I wanted to check before I did a flush (as it’s extra work if not needed).
The brake fluid I was replacing registered bad (4% water) on the tester. Interestingly enough, the new brake fluid tested at 1% out of the bottle, which is still safe to use, but a little concerning for new fluid. But it was a brand I got for a good deal and usually don’t use.
I tested my newer truck and it tested good. My other vehicle, a little older, also tested at 1%. So that saved me time and money on the fluid change.
If I test another new bottle of fluid from the popular brands, I will try and update this review so you can know the results. However, this is a review for the tester, not the fluid. So really, buy the tester. It won’t be used often probably, but it’s cheap and it could keep you safe if you find you have a lot of water in your brake fluid.

I use this tool on every vehicle inspection. Just because the fluid LOOKS bad,it doesn’t mean it always is. This can save customers money if it’s tight. This is a tool mainly used to sell brake fluid flushes, though. It tells you the percentage of water that makes up the fluid. Brake fluid is hydroscopic. This means that it’ll absorb water from the environment over time and it begins to turn acidic. This corrodes the lines from the inside out and the fluid loses its ability to work properly. Long story short – it’s a decent tester. The only problem I have with it is that sometimes the tool won’t be able to dip into the fluid because of the reservoir design. No tool is perfect all the time, and this one works just about as well as any other. Would recommend.
Collateral Damage –
I saw this device suggested by one of my favorite car care Youtubers. Since I didn’t know how old the brake fluid was in the used vehicle we recently purchased, I thought this would be the perfect way to find out if it needed to replaced or not. When the device arrived, there were no instructions included. I know it needed a AAA battery, but the battery cover is VERY difficult to remove. After using a pocket knife to remove the cover, I got the battery installed, and 1 green light appeared when the top button was pressed.
I went outside and opened the brake fluid reservoir on our vehicle, pressed the button and dipped the metal tips into the fluid. Instantly, ALL of the lights went on; which, according to the guide printed on the side of the device, meant the fluid needs replacing. All good, right?
Not so fast… A few days later, I bought a brand new bottle of brake fluid, and got everything ready to start replacing my vehicle’s fluid. For the heck of it, I decided to re-test the fluid, and this time I only got ONE green light. So, it’s NOW saying my fluid is OK? I cleaned the end, and tested it again, this time, I got one green and TWO yellows. I moved the end around in the fluid, and the number of lights was all over the place. I decided to test the brand new fluid, and it instantly illuminated ALL of the lights. This device has serious issues…
I was going to try testing one of our other vehicles, but the reservoir has a small grid that doesn’t allow the metal probes to get anywhere near the fluid level.
Oh, and don’t dare get fluid on the plastic part of the device. Where ever brake fluid touched, the white printing that shows the light guide, etc., has smeared or rubbed off.
I would send this piece of junk back, because it’s still within the return period, but the cost of time, effort, and shipping just isn’t worth it. Bottom line, avoid this thing…
