Changing rating from 5 stars to 1 star! Have had it for 10 months and I keep getting flashing message that it needs serviced. Will not work at all. Would not recommend!

So it jams on occasion when you try to print 50+ double sided pages like any printer would do. I’ve had this printer since 2020 and it’s still working. My cat has constantly used it as a landing platform from his cat tree and it hasn’t broken yet. So yep, pretty darn study product. It was 50 dollars less than the current price when I got mine. My roommate was also able to set his computer up to it super easy. I don’t know about printing photos on photo paper but large pics on 8 by 11.5 regular paper turns out how you would expect, with lines. But I mean, I’m still super impressed that I hasn’t broken under the weight of a 12 lb cat constantly jumping onto it from a night 5 feet up

Firstly, the good part: when it printed at all, the output was relatively crisp and rich. I found that printing on High quality gave best results. The cartridges don’t last long, but that’s OK because I don’t print much.
The problem is the clunky software- it is amateurish, and it is incapable of keeping the printer ready to print for longer than an hour or two. At that point, the printer quietly goes offline and cannot be resurrected by anything less than a reconnection to WiFi, which has to be done manually (my WiFi password is 12 upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols long and takes 20 minutes to input to the printer via its LCD screen input, which does not allow direct keyboard input but instead demands multiple keypresses for each letter, number and symbol with no undo except starting over.) The WPS option simply does not work even though it is described in the quaintly translated phraseology of the Manual.
In the end, after 2 frustrating years of doing battle with the Canon Trixma (or whatever nonsensical syllable-salad name they call it) TR4520, I took it out of service and replaced it with an Epson, which comes with a native-English-speaker-penned manual, a working WPS WiFi connection feature, drivers and software that keep it online and ready at all times and an informative and helpful Support forum. So far after 2 weeks or so, the Epson has remained online and ready except for a recent power failure, after which it was easily reconnected to WiFi using the WPS feature.
TL; DR: Don’t buy a Canon. The hardware is nice but the software is crapware and doesn’t work.

Didn’t indicate color cartridge which I never use was low. Kept buying black and it wouldn’t print. I thought the black ink was damaged, smh.

I read a few negative reviews about connectivity and print quality. I can say that I set up my printer, using the app to review videos and connect to WI-FI and it took around 30 minutes. No muss, no fuss, and then I went to the website to download drivers for my laptop and that took around 10 minutes.
The printing is slow for photos, but the quality is so good (clear, great color saturation and no graininess) that I do not mind the wait. The print time for documents was really fast. I understand that the ink cartridges that come with the unit are just to get you started, so I ordered replacements, so I will be ready when the starter ones run dry.
My only complaint is that the description does not say what version of ink it takes. So when the suggestion to buy ink with the unit came up, I said yes. The ink came first. But it was the wrong kind of ink and I did not know until the printer came in the mail.
I am able to return it for a full refund, but it would be nice if that info was listed with the printer.
All in all, I am very pleased.

You’re not here looking at this printer because you have some special job/ purpose. You need to get whats on your screen onto some paper so you can turn it over to an Employer, Teacher, or Government entity. Well congratulations you’ve found it. This is the printer that checks the box, it prints color just fine, black and white too. If you need an emergency photo on glossy paper it’ll do and no one outside of the photography business will be any the wiser.
Want to know why I’m here? I’m here because Epson will not print black and white when the Cyan cartridge is empty. I found this printer for $50. Not sure what it is for the endearing reader of this review but you can be assured I was not about to spend that exact amount to refill my Black+Color Epson ink cartridges.
Although I cannot yet speak as to whether the printer will print in black and white with a depleted color cartridge. I have had cannon printers in the past that have. Even being able to print my documents in color ink when black ran out in a pinch. I’ll keep you informed on that when the time comes.
So let’s boil it down. Yes, it works and it works well for your College students and Households NOT Offices (if you want an Office printer get any Laser Printer and you’ll be fine.) It’s not fast, it gets the job done well, easily, and reliably.
