I added this to my Canon EOS RP. I already have a lens that came with the camera, but this one works great! Very clear pics from this.

This was my first non kit rf lens and it hasn’t disappointed so far. Easy to use, just attach and shoot. Let’s in plenty of light so I can keep my iso low and shutter high. I am happy with the images I have gotten so far. Easy to pack away and super light so I don’t feel like I am breaking my wrist to keep the camera facing up

I am new to photography and wanted a lens that I didnโ€™t have to worry about focus and zoom. This is a great lens for portrait pictures. I mostly use my camera for pictures of my kids/family.

I will eventually upgrade to a zoom lens, but for now this is great. You just have to move closer and further to your subject to get the correct distance for your shot. It is also much cheaper than a zoom lens. Definitely enough to get a great photo!

At first, the camera didn’t appear to be as bright or fast. That was because the stock 24-50mm f 4.5 isn’t that great. I decided to get a 50mm f 1.8 and the camera operates just as fast as my prior cameras. I still think It’s worth getting the kit if you still want a wireless shutter remote, tripod, monopod, and microphone. If you are going to be filming 4k beyond 24fps, you will have to get a UHS II card. It’s so much nicer having a full frame sensor.

This RF 50mm f1.8 is a relatively small, lightweight, sharp lens. It’s great for travel as it doesn’t take up too much space in a camera bag.

In terms of sharpness (contrast), it performs well stopped down to f2.8. While it’s not built like an “L” series lens, it doesn’t feel cheap. Granted, it’s not weather resistant, but it won’t cost as much as an f1.2 either.

I ended up getting a step-up ring to fit a 58mm lens cap just to keep it consistant with my other small primes.

It compares pretty closely to the EF 50mm f1.8. Biggest advantage is that you don’t need an EF/RF adapter to use it on your R-series camera body. That makes a major difference if you are trying to maintain as compact a system as possible (especially for travel).

The lens is well made and does an excellent job. I wanted a ‘nifty fifty’ prime lens but, because of my lack of understanding, what I ended up with is an 80mm fixed focus lens. I did not fully understand the differences of the Canon R series cameras; i.e., image sensors and lens types.

RF and RF-S lenses work interchangeably. However, an RF lens is intended to be used on a camera with a full frame sensor. And, likewise, a RF-S lens is designed for a camera with an APS-C sensor. Again, while both types are interchangeable, I unwittingly bought this RF type lens for my EOS R camera that has an APS-C sensor. When you mix these apples and oranges, a conversion needs to be made. There is a crop factor of 1.6x difference when a Canon full frame lens (RF) is mated to an APS-C body. Thus, this 50mm prime lens effectively becomes 80mm (50mm x 1.6 crop factor).

It’s nice to have learned all of this because Canon has an amazing selection of R lenses. I retuned this lens and purchased the ‘Canon RF28mm F2.8 STM Lens, RF Mount, Wide-Angle, for Full-Frame Cameras’. Indeed, I purchased another RF lens for my APS-C camera but on purpose this time. Using the 1.6x crop factor, it works out to be about a 45mm and that gets me close to that 50mm I was wanting. One day, when I upgrade to a full frame body, I will have already bought myself a wide-angle lens. As a novice, this has been a good learning experience.

I needed a new lens to go with my new camera. This lens is a prime lens and at 50 mm gives me the ability to take great photos at a static image.

This is a great first lens for anyone getting into the Canon RF system. It really helps you take amazing photos and the focal length teaches you to see composition and shoot properly. This is the first lens everyone should own.

It is light and quick to focus. It is tack sharp at all apertures and the control ring can be set to a variety of options.

This is my favorite lens and I love it.

This has out performed my expectations with ease, I find it odd how often I’m reaching for this thing, it serves so many purposes although not as clear as my other multi thousands of dollar lenses its absolutely fantastic for capturing any type of imagery even splicing landscapes and model portraits. The only complaint I may have is its focus isn’t always as consistent and a little slower than the L lenses. I would find uses for this at weddings and even a single travel lens. if you have a 24-70 don’t bother but its the definition of nifty fifty!
