If you order the book by itself, I could see where one would be disappointed. However, with the CD the book is excellent. The book starts with a couple of simple exercises on the open A and D, then adds new notes with the fingering labeled. Very helpful for a beginner! Almost immediately one plays, and stick with me here, Twinkle Twinkle, HOWEVER, there are 4 somewhat rapid bowing patterns used, so right away you are learning rhythm and timing and fast bowing – all very useful things! In addition, it gets your ears used to the open string interval. You can tell by ear if those 2 strings are in tune. Starting on the next page, more simple melodies are introduced, and quickly one learns to count the beat and take repeats. Turn the page and you start using dynamics – crescendo, decresendo, ritard, etc. The songs are kind of fast, so you learn right away that you can’t drag your feet, you have to keep up. This is real life in an orchestra – you have to count the beat, respect the dynamics, and keep up. This system is a huge help! I am using it in addition to the work I’m doing with a new and wonderful teacher, although I’m doing this on my own on the side. I highly recommend the book AND CD for anyone starting out, or even if you’ve been at it for a little while and are not progressing as quickly as you would like. It’s also fun to have something to play along with, and to learn what it’s supposed to sound like. It can get old just sawing away on one’s own.

I am not following the suzuki method but my teacher is happy for me to use it and I found the book excellent. Plenty of useful exercises and interesting tunes for an adult beginner (unlike other books). Navigated through it nicely in one month (could already read music)

This is what my sons cell instructor uses for his beginner students and it’s great and my son has come so far since starting his lessons with this book.

Debería incluir una actualización sobre las primeras técnicas de la 1era posición e incluir su traducción al español ya que remarca que es la edición internacional

Adult learner with >10 years of piano experience (>10 years ago though). Great book! You can watch YouTube videos of how the songs are “suppose” to sound.

There’s an error in Etude where they finger a three and it should be a two. Other than that, great!
