I liked it because it brought the great classics to us common folk like me.

As a former cellist who has recently started playing bass guitar, I was overjoyed to see this book was available. It is generally great, but there are some transcription errors. I can understand some, given the standard bass tuning only goes to the E two octaves below middle C, while the cello goes to the C below that E, but the harmonically sensible solution would have been to stay on the correct note above the low note. I have also found a couple of other wrong notes. However, overall this is a great book. Perhaps a new edition with corrections is due?

If you love Bach then this is a must get for the serious Bass player.
Stephen G. Carl –
Great for practicing bass clef reading. Need to tune the E string down to D though.

Trรจs bon pour le travail de la main gauche! et trรจs beau ร jouer !!

Great book. It does however in typical Hal Leonard style, depict open strings in the tablature where a fretted note would be more appropriate. My cover was torn but I will likely beat it up worse than that. No used value at all however.
CBHouse –
Overall, very good, and I would recommend. However, a few things to know/understand before you buy.
1. Only one of these movements takes standard E-A-D-G tuning.
2. Tune to D-A-D-G. This may be an issue for you if you have a short scale bass.
3. None of these are in their true key-signatures. They have truly been “adapted” to bass. That said, you can’t really “play along” since you will be in the wrong key.
Again, this is GOOD. But be prepared. This probably should have been written for a 5-String Bass, but I appreciate the effort to adapt for 4-String.

too much fun!

Going to waste many hour of my life trying to get my fingers around these. Clear tab. Easy to read.
Eric Mounier –
Die wenigen tiefen D spiele ich halt eine Oktabe hรถher, was mMn nicht wirklich stรถrt.
Luke Brouillette –
Good resource for bass players. Pay no attention to people griping about it not being in the original keys. When transcribing for different instruments that’s the way that it’s done. If you have a problem with that you’d have to take it up with Andres Segovia. Music is almost never in the same key when transcribed for guitar – that’s so it suits the instrument better – same for bass.
