I laughed out loud too many times to count and loved the book being set in London. This book is simple and heartfelt and wonderful in its story telling. You come to love all the characters and can’t wait to hear the other stories. If you need a book to just make your heart happy, this is the one 💜💜💜

Susie Tate has an amazing ability to capture raw, deeply sensitive emotions and give us characters who bring those emotions to life. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered. Lottie and Hayley were so endearing in their brokenness and powerful in their strength. Ollie was beautifully crafted as both a Duke and as a man with more love to give than he even realized. If you are looking for a mega feel good story with the best HEA, grab this one. You will fall in love with an amazing cast of characters.

I hope one day that Susie Tate writes an FMC that can speak in whole sentences without any mumbling. I also hope that one of her FMC’s starts to push back against manhandling.
I saw one review that said that Lottie is a strong female character and all I could think is “did we read the same book?”
There was a lot missing in this book. A lot of personal details and details that would help build a strong foundation for the story. For example, Lottie says at one point that Lucy is one of her best friends. I was perplexed at that…we never see them interact, we don’t read about them texting, and we don’t get any scenes where they’re at the local pub or, even the movies. So I was utterly baffled at how someone can say they are best friends when they never get together.
Let’s talk about the non-swearing. It’s totally okay to have a lead character decide to not swear. But is annoying is reading all of the “cutesy” words used in place of curse words. Like, why say those words at all? Towards the end of the book, the FMC does decide to swear and it does deliver the impact that the author wanted, but did we need to sit through so much “cheese and rice” to get that punch in the gut moment?
We also lost some of the funny from the FMC. At one point she was funny and I found myself chuckling. Yet, the FMC lost that personality trait half way through the book.
FMC also experiences a huge amount of body betrayal syndrome and it was so very disappointing. Why are women authors writing such wet blanket heroines in 2024?
This book also contained approx 30 formatting errors. Too many for a seasoned author as Tate.

I loved the story, Lottie and Hayley are brilliant characters, Ollie is capable of love and kindness and feels passionately about Lottie, his cleaner, and the scene with his rubber gloves and bleach and that subject coming up with Felix and Mike, was so funny and touching🥰
But I felt his changeable treatment of Lottie when she so desperately wanted and missed having a family that she belonged to and was a loved part of, was particularly cruel, and after how he spoke to Lottie after the party/benefit in the car park, knowing how often he had professed he wanted and considered her to be an important part of his family, I was disgusted with him. In my opinion he didn’t grovel anywhere near enough for how horrible his attitude, total lack of respect for her feelings and her desperate attempts to help ‘his family’ and trust in her and her judgement. He just told her to stay out of his family business as it was his family and she was just causing him and HIS family trouble! He went too far, and never really put it right, or apologised for all the other women he went out with, or was pulled up on the girl he allowed to cuddle in to him for a tabloid photo. I would have liked a proper marriage proposal for Lottie, she deserved that special moment from Ollie and so did Hayley.
I love how Susie incorporates different special needs into her characters, as a Mum of autistic/adhd twins, and seeing first hand their struggles it means a lot🥹
I can’t wait for Vicky’s story, but Mike needs to be more observant to her obvious traits, autism awareness is not hard💛💙
I read this book as quick as I could, and still loved Lottie and Ollie together 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

He is a fancy duke with royal blood and she is a normie struggling from paycheque to paycheque. He lives a life of extreme privilege & comfort and she is trying to survive while working, going to school & raising her traumatized little sister. Together (and separately) they face difficulties from the past, challenges of the present, heartache, misunderstandings, and some unnecessary parental meddling that will mess up everyone’s lives.
Lottie is fierce, deeply likeable, relateable, funny, brilliant, intelligent, vulnerable, protective, loving, extremely loyal, bold, understandably fragile, layered, and delightful. Ollie is annoyingly likeable, frequently frustrating, surprisingly complex, protective, sweet, and very human.
This is a beautifully human story that manages to break your heart while also filling it with hope and joy.
There is a bit of spice but if that isn’t your jam, you can easily skip those pages so that you don’t miss out on a phenomenal story.
I find Susie’s writing style easy to follow and both my brain & heart easily connect with it. Her descriptions are clear and I can easily picture the characters and their world. And she handles complex topics intelligently and carefully.
If you are new to Susie’s books, welcome! This would be a great first book and you don’t need to have read any other books to enjoy this one. (You’ll want to read all her other books but that’s because you’ll want more of her stories, not because of missing plot points)
I received this as an ARC and once I started reading, I couldn’t stop and ended up finishing the book in one sitting. I am already planning my reread because I want to visit these characters again.

I rarely pay full price for a book, but this one sounded really good. It absolutely was. I read a LOT, and few books are as good as this one. I loved the premise, the characters, the character development, the flow. It’s not often a book can have me laughing frequently, bring me to a sobbing mess and make me want to slap more than one character. There are some big issues touched upon. There is a lot of character growth, sometimes painful growth, and all characters are well rounded with both good and bad qualities. This is a funny book, great romance, but not always easy. Loved it. It’s a book I will probably read again soon because I feel like there was so much depth that I couldn’t grasp it all in one read. I will be thinking about various aspects of this book for a long time.

Ollie has a good heart but can be a blockhead . His sisters show their resilience with som help from Lottie. Hailey helps bring them together in an unexpected way.
This was a captivating read.
Besides a few bedrooms scenes that are tastefully done ( not to much detail) .

From the first page I was hooked, like a fish on a line. It’s about a young lass who’s got the weight of the world on her shoulders, raising her little sister while fighting tooth and nail to keep custody. In swoops and aristocrat-rich as anything but not your typical toff. They’ve got the whole opposites attract thing going on and it’s dead romantic, but of course nothings ever that simple. This book has romance, heart, family, and fighting for what you love. An emotional knockout with the perfect mix of sass, drama, and swoon worthy moments. You never stop cheering for them although they both make you a bit cheesed off.

A cute feel-good romance. Ollie is so arrogant and completely clueless. It was rough to watch the train wreck that was his mouth but he’s completely obsessed with Lottie. His interactions with Hayley are so sweet and when he shows up to fight for them I swooned so hard. Lottie has had to be strong her whole life and I really enjoyed watching her get to let go and accept help. Wasn’t too spicy but had a story that I couldn’t put down.

This modern Cinderella-esque book captivated me so much I stayed up way too late to finish it. I absolutely love all the characters, but especially Lottie and Hayley.
While I haven’t experienced the same things as them, I can identify with the hyper vigilance that comes with trauma. The emotional reactions felt so real and raw. Typically I hate miscommunication tropes but it worked so well in Lottie and Ollie’s story. This book had me crying, laughing, and biting my nails.
Ollie’s groveling was also *chef’s kiss* This book has so much heart, I can’t wait to reread it again. But first, I want to reread Daydreamer (Lucy and Felix’s story) since Lottie and Ollie are side characters there. I also cannot wait for Vicky and Mike’s story—there’s a sneak peak at the end and I may have already more-ordered it!
Overall, this book is very plot driven with a few well done spicy scenes. I’d rate it 2/5 chili peppers.
