I’m only giving it four stars because this device said my car has no codes. Took it to my Honda dealership for an oil change a week later. Their tech and scan tool said I’ve no codes either.
I’m certain their scan tool costs way more than the $45 I paid and both devices said the same thing.
If/when I get a code, on our other vehicles, I’ll update this review.

I have used scanners that are much easier to operate. This one did get the job done, but it took some reading and playing around with it to figure it out. It’s complicated enough so that the next time I use it I’ll have to read and play around with it again. The manufacture should really consider making the software a little more intuitive.

My Subaru has on 4 or 5 occasions had the engine light come on. It has usually been nothing important, but I have had to go to my mechanic to check it out, and clear the code. This scanner saved me a trip to the mechanic soon after I received it. I was able to google the scan error code detected, which was not any sort of major problem, and was then able to clear the code myself. I’ll be carrying it in the car when I go on any long trips.

The OBD 2 scanner is highly effective and affordable. It does exactly as described. I wish the directions were a bit more comprehensible to me. Sometimes I had to stop and try to figure out what was being said.

If you have an engine code, and this scanner is compatible, it will read it for you no problem. I used it to diagnose a faulty smog pump in a 2008 Toyota Tundra (north american mfg). after the replacement, we’re back in action. Saves time and money by directing you to the exact problem.
The fact that large shops &etc will charge 200$ just for this, is absolutely robbery. Buy a code scanner compatible with your engine.
again, please ensure the scanner is compatible with your engine before buying. match the plugs in the photographs first.

This scanner does a good job even on older cars like my ’01 Honda Civic. It does more than just basic code reading and erasing, but don’t expect it to work like a $200+ reader. On old cars (like mine) it is a little limited. This is not the fault of the scanner, it is the limitation of the computer that comes with the car. If this scanner is used on a newer car more stuff is available. Not bad for $50 but it would be better deal if they lowered the price back down to $35. Added Plus: Unlike another scanner (*COUGH* “INNOVA 5210”) that costs about $100, THIS scanner comes with a full PRINTED owners manual in the packaging. (INNOVA doesn’t you have to download it)
