Sturdy, great quality, adjustable, and works great. I no longer have anxiety teaching my toddlers how to swim. I’m 170 bought a large and fits perfect 🤩 I can now tread water without it and only use it when I have non swimmers in the pool in case I need to be a lifeguard 😎 inexpensive in comparison to others and I’m beyond satisfied

It is a little short for a 6ft man but fits well otherwise.

I bought this for my grandson because he had outgrown his one from last year. I was worried about it fitting because you never know when buying online. It fit him fine and he loves the comfort. It also meets the safety standards.

I wanted to bring to your attention a potential life threatening risk to your attention.

Bought a boat 2 months ago to share some childhood experiences with my family. I’ve avoided getting in the water because I’m 76 and not a very good swimmer. So I bought this coast guard approved life jacket for my size on Amazon. It was highly rated and fit beautifully.

I decided to try it out. So I put the life jacket on and jumped off the back of the boat. I was expecting to quickly pop up at the surface. Instead I looked up and had about 8-10 feet of water above me and was still sinking. The lake is over 100ft deep. By the time I realized that the life jacket wasn’t working, I was almost out of air. I did my best to swim to the surface, My daughter pulled me up the last 2-3 feet. It took me 30 minutes to catch my breathe and calm down.

I made a second attempt only this time I slipped off the back of the boat and once again started to sink again, in a panic I swam back to the boat.

I’m a retired engineer so when I got home I investigated why the life jacket didn’t work. The jacket I purchased went up to size 5x, mine was 3x. However, after about an hour of research I discovered I determined the buoyancy rating was much lower than needed for my weight. It was the same for every size from small to 5x at 16 pounds. I needed at least 22 pounds of buoyancy.

The listings for life jackets do not adjust buoyancy based of jacket size and the weight of the person. Buoyancy was referenced in general terms like “high buoyancy” or something similar. If it did reference buoyancy, it used technical rating numbers without explanation. All were coast guard approved, but lacked any weight or size limits.

I’m not a buoyancy expert, but a persons buoyancy varies by person and is based on your weight (bone, water, and fat). Your body is 80% water with neutral buoyancy, and 15% fat which helps a little. So, if the jacket performs as designed most people are okay. But for heavier people like me (285 lbs), and big boned, I relied on the fact that a size 3x, my size, was designed for my weight.

I think all life jackets sold should have a weight limit on them include a safety factor for any other buoyancy factors.
