    The author provides us a very solid background on self=sabotage based upon the theory of psychology. Perhaps the best part of the book is when the author goes beyond simply identifying the traits of the self=saboteur and identifies triggers and strategies to manage and overcome these traits.

    As a man and a teacher of younger men (high school), I can tell you that societal pressure can be tremendous. The books start off by outlining why self-sabotage within men is likely to occur, and part of it has to do with this idea that men aren’t supposed to fail or seek help when achieving goals. However, seeking help, be it mental, physical, or just guidance from a professional doesn’t make one less masculine. This is one of the first lessons.

    Techniques such as SMART (an acronym) designed to help avoid self-sabotage are provided in later chapters. Cognitive restructuring is also described and encouraged after self-awareness techniques are employed. The end of the book has a collection of case studies, which serve as examples of how to use the techniques to overcome self-sabotage.
